3 a) Explain the load flow solution procedure of GS iterative method for a 8
power system having both P-V and P-Q buses. Also explain how
acceleration factors are applied at the end of each iteration.

b) In the power system shown in figure (3), line 1-2 has a series impedance of 6
(0.04 + j 0.12) pu with negligible line charging. The generation and load
data is given in the table.
Bus Type Generation (pu) Load (pu)

1 Slack --- --- ---- ---
2 PV 0.3 --- 0.6 0.2

Figure (3)
The slack bus voltage is (1+ j 0). The voltage magnitude at bus 2 is to be
maintained at 1.05 pu and the generator at this bus has Q generation limits
between 0 and 0.5 pu with (1 + j0) pu initial voltage at bus 2. Determine
its voltage at the end of each iteration, using GS method.

c) Obtain power flow equations and voltage update equations for an N-bus 6
power system network, for solution by GS method.

4 a) Derive load flow equations of Newton Raphson method in polar co- 6
ordinates.

b) Derive FDLF model, clearly stating all the assumptions made and give the 6
flow chart

c) For the power system shown in figure (4) load and system data are given. 8
Obtain, at the end of first iteration, voltage at Bus (2) by FDLF method.

450 MW. Find the optimum load scheduling neglecting losses if the plants
have following incremental fuel cost characteristics and generator
constraints.

b) Figure.5 shows a system having two plants 1 and 2 connected to buses 1 10

and 2, respectively. There are two loads and a network of four branches.
The reference bus with voltage of 1.0 pu. The branch currents and
impedances are

Ia = 2 − j0.5 pu Za = 0.015 + j0.06 pu

Ib = 1.6 − j0.4 pu Zb = 0.015 + j0.06 pu
Ic = 1 − j0.25 pu Zc = 0.01 + j0.04 pu
Id = 3.6 − j0.9 pu Zd = 0.01 + j0.04 pu
