SUBORDINATE SPEAKER-----------FOR

The Chair, Panel of Judges, Accurate and Impartial Timekeeper, Competent

Fellow, Students, Ladies and Gentlemen. Being given the opportunity to debate
on this controversial motion keeps me in ecstasy. I am Pwawari Samuel N.
subordinate speaker for Kumasi High school speaking to affirm the motion: “The
youth must be blamed for indiscipline in the society. Now that the key words of
the motion have been explained by my principal debater lend me your unbiased
attention as I advance my arguments for this much contended motion.

The Chair to start with, I will first quote the universal maxim that: “life is a
choice”. My opponents may propound theories that the youth must not be
blamed because society made them so and that they copied from their parents.
The Chair, this is a serious impression that must be dealt with. At this juncture let
me pose this question to my opponents: “Why did God in his infinite wisdom and
mercy endow man with conscience? The ability to choose between right and
wrong? The youth resisting blame for indiscipline in the society is unfair because,
becoming indiscipline is a pure matter of choice and decision. Experience Chair,
Ladies and Gentlemen, you can all attest to the fact that the youth of yesteryears
were more disciplined. Let us take the bible as an element of proof. The stories of
David and Isaac for instance, are outstanding examples of youngsters who
showed humility to their parents and societies at large and because of that, are
still admired up to date. The chair, if my hard-hit opposers are blaming the society
for the indiscipline of the youth, then let me ask them if they mean there were no
evildoers during the days of Isaac, Joseph and David. Obviously there were
evildoers such as Potiphars wife. So if the youth are indiscipline then they must
shelf the blame because it is a product of their choices. After all there is an Akan
saying that says: ‘Obiara nkyere akraa nyame’ meaning nobody shows the child
God.

The chair all present, you will all agree with me on the fact that most of the
trendsetters of this age are in their youth. People like Lady Gaga, the forbes
magazines most influential person, Ne-yo, Bow wow and others negatively
influence other youth not only on the way they dress but even how they talk. In
fact the use of swear words, improper dressing and immorality have been
attribute to this young celebrities. So why should anybody be surprised if such
people who constitute the youth are to be blamed?

Finally the Chair, you will all agree with me on the fact that, the youth of today
have discarded our Ghanaian culture in the name of the so called modern
westernized culture. They look with object disdain at our culture and brand them
outmoded and out of fashion. In our attempt to discover a new sense of identity
we have come up to imbibe indisciplined western cultures such as the most
adored “Otofister” on the part of boys and the wearing of miniskirts and
barebacks on the side of the females, hair do such as “Amele” and “Dreadlocks”

It is also a common sight to see friends laughing at adults who still go the
“pimpinis” way of dressing. So if I may ask, do you not believe that the indiscipline
acts in the society are as a result of the youth deliberate decision to discard our
decent culture? The youth must be blamed. The chair, I hope with the points
raised you will all side with me that the youth must be blamed. Thank you.
