Geotechnical Analysis and Design Footing

Question (1)
A 0.30 m masonry wall exerts 15 t/m' at ground surface and is to be supported on a strip
footing. The foundation level is 1.5 m below ground surface. The soil below the base has a
gross allowable bearing capacity of 1.0 kg/cm2. It is required to give complete design and neat
sketches for the strip footing.

Question (2)
Make a complete design for a footing supporting a 30 cm x 60 cm column load of 100 t
at ground surface (G.S). The foundation level is 1.5 m below G.S. and the net allowable
bearing capacity is 2.0 kg/cm2 the thickness of plain concrete is 15 cm and there are a
property line 70 cm far from column as shown on figure (1).

Question (3)
An existing footing has the concrete dimensions and the steel reinforcement illustrated in
Figure (2) where the soil formation is also shown. It is required to determine the maximum safe
load “P” that can be carried by this footing.

Question (4)
Make a complete design for a combined footing for the two columns shown in
figure (3). The allowable gross pressure is 2.0 kg/cm2 and the foundation level is 1.5m below
ground surface (Neglect column own weight) fcu = 350 kg/cm2, fy =3600 kg/cm2
Note: All previous straining actions were at ground surface.

Question (5)
Make a complete design and draw neat sketches of a strap beam footing for the two
columns shown in Figure (4). The foundation level is at 2.0 m below ground surface (G.S)
where the allowable gross bearing capacity of supporting soil is 1.0 kg/cm2.

Question (6)
For the car shed footing shown in figure (5), make a complete design for a footing
supporting it. The foundation level is 1.5 m below G.S. and the gross allowable bearing capacity
is 1.65 kg/cm2 (Neglect column own weight).

Question (7)
For the shown combined footing at figure (6) (Base R.C only, t = 90 cm, B.C = 1.5
kg/cm2, fcu = 250 kg/cm2, fy =3600 kg/cm2):
1- Check the over stress beneath the footing.
2- Check that thickness of footing 90 cm is adequate.
3- Check that the top longitudinal reinforcement of 10∅18 is adequate.
4- Check the Punching stress under col (1).

Question (8)
1- Comment using clear net sketches on the expected contact pressure distribution beneath
rigid and flexible footing in both of sand and clay soil.
2- Mention the different cases of stress distribution that may happens in eccentric footing,
in crane supporting footing there is additional condition should be satisfied mention it and
give a reason.
