VISUAL AIDS – A Checklist

Have you limited the number of slides according to the time available?

Is all of the information on your slides both relevant and necessary?

Is all data clearly visible?

Have you included too much detail for the audience to easily follow?

Have you oversimplified your information?

Have you checked for spelling and punctuation errors?

Do you have a consistent design theme?

Is every diagram clearly and correctly labelled?

Is the lettering large enough to be easily read?

Are there too many words on the screen?

Have you included long sentences/paragraphs that will take your audience a long time to read?

Overall, is your message clear, easy to understand and attractively presented?

THE INTRODUCTION

The introduction should:

Welcome the audience

Introduce yourself (if necessary)

Introduce your subject

Outline the structure of your presentation

Provide a confident start to your presentation

THE MAIN BODY

The main body should:

Be logically and clearly divided between group members

Be well structured

Be clearly signposted throughout

Make use of well timed and spaced visuals

Use clear, simple language and avoid long, complicated sentences.

Avoid the use of jargon, unless you are certain your audience understands

THE CONCLUSION

The conclusion should:

Briefly summarise your key points

Give recommendations if appropriate

Thank your audience
