Atlas Copco + Krupp

The logic of the merger was self-evident:

“The acquisition of Krupp Berco Bautechnik

Claes Ahrengart, President of Construction Tools Division

When Atlas Copco purchased the

Krupp hydraulic hammer business
(Krupp Berco Bautechnik) in June of
2002, Atlas Copco held a dominant
position in smaller hydraulic hammers,
but were weaker in the larger sizes used
for demolition and mining. Having
purchased Krupp, Atlas Copco now of-
fers a complete product line of carrier-
mounted demolition tools. At Bauma

Brand crossover
At Bauma, the Krupp range of hydraulic attachments
will be introduced under the Atlas Copco brand. To
change a well known brand is a difficult process, es-
pecially since Krupp is so strongly connected to the
reliability and quality of its products and services. A
complex web of emotions are connected to any brand,
but Claes Ahrengart sees this as a short-term problem:
“The more we get to know Krupp, the more we see
the merger as a marriage of minds: we really share the
same values to a remarkable degree. So we hope that
Kruppʼs customers will soon understand that quality
and reliability are also intrinsic to Atlas Copco.”

Setting new standards

The acquisition of Krupp has opened up a whole new
area of possibilities. “The synergies we are gaining in
design, development and manufacturing, distribution,
service and support, are already being felt,” says Claes
Ahrengart. “But the position as a market leader also
comes with a high degree of responsibility: itʼs more
important than ever to prove to both existing custom-
ers and new that Atlas Copco will continue to set new
standards and exceed customer expectations.”

Launching a new generation of solid body hydraulic breakers

Making the best

better
Atlas Copcoʼs solid body breakers have long been considered the
toughest, most reliable light hydraulic hammers on the market. At
Bauma 2004, we launch the SB 200, the first in a new generation
of solid body breakers. The SB 200 hits harder, faster and is ea-
sier to install. To meet emerging legislation, noise and vibration
levels have been cut significantly. And weʼve taken the
solid body concept even further. The result? A tool
that is tougher and more reliable than ever.
“Weʼve taken the best, and made it better,” says
Roland Henriksson, Chief Designer Light Hydrau-
lic Breakers.

Impact rate boosted by 50%

Although the SB 200 weighs the same as its
predecessor, the SBC 410, it hits harder and
50% faster – with the same oil flow of just
65 l/min. This boost in efficiency is due to
the new design of the hammer mechanism.

Easy to install
With more and more operators
moving from handheld to rig-moun-
ted breakers, the SB 200 has been
made much easier to install. “Even

The noise and vibration levels of
the SB 200 have been considerably
reduced. This has been achieved
with the help of a new hammer
mechanism with recoil dampening,
as well as the new compact design
of the hammer body.

Torsten Ahr,
Product Line Manager for heavy-duty hydraulic breakers:

“The new MB 1000 has been designed primarily for rock breaking,
demolition, trenching and foundation work. The MB 1000 is suitable for
attachment to carriers in the 12 to 20 metric ton class – accounting for
the highest excavator population – and is thus a true all-rounder. We
have great expectations of this product because the
1000 kg segment has enormous potential worldwide.”
