What is a chemical bond
A lasting bond between atoms, ions or
molecules.
A force holding atoms together in a chemical
compound.
There are three types of bonding, covalent,
ionic,and metallic.
What is a chemical structure
The arrangement of chemical bonds between atoms and molecules

Chemical structures work by the molecular geometry of a compound by portraying

a spatial arrangement

Chemical structures can be represented by a diagram/structure

What is bond length and bond
angle?
Bond length Bond angle

This is an average distance This is the angle formed

between the nuclei and two between three atoms
atoms that will bond across at least two bonds.
together. The angle can be
The longer the bond length determined by a lone pair
of the bond the easier it is electron
for them to break apart

How does a compound’s chemical structure affect its properties?

Chemical structures determine the geometry of an atom

Atoms are the smallest unit of matter that retain the fundamental elements of a chemical
property

The chemical structure of water gives it unique property

What is the ball-and-stick model and space-filling
model
Ball and stick models are three-dimensional there are represented by sticks between the spheres.
Why do atoms bond with each other
Atoms will bond with other atoms in order to gain stability.
What are two basic kinds of chemical bonding
The two main types of bonds are ionic bonds and covalent
bonds.https://www.thoughtco.com/types-of-chemical-bonds-603984

What are ionic bonds?
They are also called electrovalent bond which is a type of linkage formed from the
electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound.

https://www.britannica.com/science/ionic-bond
How are ionic bonds formed?
The ionic bonds are formed when the valence electrons of one atom are
transferred permanently to another atom.

What is a cation?
The cation has more protons than electrons, consequently giving it a net positive
charge.

What is anion?
Anions are negative ions that are formed when a nonmetal atom gains one or
more electrons.

How are cation and anion involved in ionic bonds?
Ionic bonding is the attraction between positive and negative charged ions ,and
they are attracted by the opposite charges.

Covalent bonds

❖ What is a covalent bond -the interatomic linkage that results from the sharing of
an electron pair between two atoms.
❖ They are usually made of gases such as HCl, SO2, CO2, and CH4

❖ O2 ‘s melting point is -218 degrees and it’s boiling point is -183 c

Covalent bonds
❖ Double and triple covalent bonds are stronger than single
covalent bonds and they are characterized by the sharing of
four or six .
❖ Two oxygen atoms can both achieve stable structures by
sharing two pairs of electrons as in the diagram..
