Explain your answer.
1. Assuming they are able to play it right, it can be a competitive advantage because their
culture of inclusivity can attract diverse employees who could serve creative and
innovative ideas that the company can use to improve itself. This kind of innovation
could either be radical, systems, or incremental which either kind of innovation would
lead to a competitive advantage should they be ahead of the competition to do so. The
article even says “diverse employees help provide a keen understanding of its diverse
global customers' needs, diversity and inclusion are encouraged throughout the
organization.”
2. Technology can be used to create jobs that can attract to diverse candidates. This is used
to enhance the inclusion that Whirlpool is going for. Investing in technology such as
integrating technology for Human Resources can be used to reduce the unconscious bias.
Having resumes that are judged by an algorithm prevent any biases occurring. They could
also rely on software in implementing salaries and wages to avoid anything
discriminatory like wage gaps.
3. I think the steps that Whirlpool had taken are worthwhile. As their CEO and chairman,
Jeff Fettig, states that “at Whirlpool, we best serve the unique needs of our customers
through diverse, inclusive and engaged employees who truly reflect our global customer
base.” Their diverse members can help provide an understanding of its diverse global
customers' needs, diversity and inclusion are encouraged throughout the organization.
What Whirlpool understood is that its leaders need to show an understanding and interest
in diversity before it can become part of the company culture because they have a diverse
demographic.
