Dress Code Policy


Objective:
The objective to establish a formal work dress code is to enable our employees to project the
professional image that is in keeping with the needs of our students, parents, clients and visitors.
Chandigarh University strives to maintain a workplace environment that functions well and is free from
unnecessary distractions. University expects employees to maintain a neat and clean appearance that is
appropriate for the workplace setting and for the work being performed.

Scope:
This policy applies to all our employees

Policy Elements:
1. All University staff members are expected to present a professional image to students, parents,
clients and visitors
2. Department heads should communicate any department specific workplace attire and grooming
guidelines to staff members during orientation & induction sessions
3. Any staff member who does not meet the attire on grooming standards will be subject to
corrective action
4. All staff members must wear the identification card (ID) at all the times while at work. The card
must be worn around the neck with the standard string and holder provided by the university.

Personal Grooming:
All employees are expected to meet hygiene requirements during the regular working hours.

 Employees must always present a clean professional appearance


 Use deodorant/anti perspirant to minimize body odors
 Wash hands after eating or using the restroom
 Socks must be worn with shoes
 Neat and well groomed hair, mustaches and beards
 Excess Body piercing/tattoos is unacceptable
Formal/Business Attire:
Any university staff that maintains regular in personal contact with students/parents/public will be
required to wear appropriate business attire

 Men: Full/half sleeve shirt, Trouser and Leather shoe. No jeans during regular working days.
No T- shirts.
 Women: Saree or Salwar/Churidar Kameez or Western business formals. Gaudy/embroidered
bold dresses may be avoided. No Jeans to be worn from Monday to Friday. No T-shirts

Casuals on Saturdays:
University employs a “Casual Saturday” policy wherein employees are welcome to wear workplace
appropriate jeans and sports/running shoes

Inappropriate Attire:
 Shirts tucked out of trousers, t-shirts without collar, round and v-neck t-shirts, slogan carrying t-
shirts are not allowed
 Jogging pants
 Shorts
 Low cut tops
 Crop tops
 Any form of clothing that is mesh, sheer or see through
 Any form of clothing that contains political, personal or offensive messages
 Plastic flip flops or high heeled/fancy sandals
 Beach footwear, hawai chappals and slippers
 Clothing with inappropriate design or stamps are not allowed
 Track suits
(Only Saturdays)
Note:

1) HOD/Managers reserves the right to request a staff member to dress up according to


appropriate standard as a condition of employment.
2) If you are in a work environment with inappropriate clothing, you may be sent home to change
before returning to work.
