Course Title: Guidance and Counselling

I. Course Description:
School Guidance and Counselling provides the students with an overview with the nature, principles and methods, services, practices and administration of
Guidance services in schools. Emphasis is given on the role of teachers as guidance workers in the classroom, and the knowledge, skills and characteristics attendant
to the role.

II. General Objectives:


1. Know and understand the terms, specific facts, methods and procedures, basic concepts and principles of the course.
2. Apply the knowledge and understanding of the course in their work as teachers/counselors.
3. Assess one’s personal qualities in relation to the desirable characteristics of a counselor.
4. Exercise greater awareness on the ethical standards governing counselling practices.
5. Understand counseling as a profession.

III. Specific Objectives


At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:
1. Know and understand fundamental subject matters of guidance:
 Its definition, importance, concepts, principles
 Role as guidance workers in the classroom

and competent graduates capable of meeting the growing human resources
needs in the profession, government, business, industry and home.

2. Acquire and demonstrate basic skills in counseling, facilitating and referral.


3. Develop and demonstrate the skills for utilizing and gathering tests and non-tests measures of appraisal.
4. Imbue themselves with the attitudes, traits and characteristics of a facilitative and effective classroom guidance worker.
5. Demonstrate the ability to make a homeroom guidance program of activities, homeroom lesson plan and facilitated a homeroom class.
