School, Family, and Community Engagement Plan

Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie is a K-8 public, charter school in Port St. Lucie,
FL. The school serves approximately 1,302 students (Florida Department of Education, 2020)
across St. Lucie County, FL. The Florida Department of Education’s (2020) EduData Portal
states that in the Fall 2019 there were 419 Black/African American students, 389 White students,
415 Hispanic students, 18 Asian students, and 51 multiracial students. The remaining 10 students
are in other racial groups. Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie (RCSSL) is open to all
students by application (Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie, 2020). Families must apply
online and submit an application through the school’s online application portal (Renaissance
Charter School of St. Lucie, 2020). Once the application has been submitted, a lottery is
conducted and families are notified if their child(ren) have been offered a seat (Renaissance
Charter School of St. Lucie, 2020). Once a seat is offered, families must choose to accept or
decline. If a family accepts, then all necessary information (documents, immunizations, proof of
residency, etc.) are required before the student(s) may start school. Applications are accepted
throughout the year and enrollment for the following year is announced online. Families with

Plan Alignment
Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie seeks to create a school where students can
achieve and prepare them for the future. The school’s mission, vision, and values are clearly
posted on the school’s homepage (Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie, 2020), posted
throughout the school, and are clearly visible to anyone entering the school. The Engagement
Plan above was aligned to the school’s mission, vision, and values in mind. The opportunities
created with stakeholders are meant to create unique and engaging opportunities with students,
which will prepare them for the future (tied to mission) and allow to them interact with business
leaders and give them skills necessary for the future (tied to vision). Additionally, with our goals
for communication, RCSSL is striving to create opportunities for all students, no matter if they

Learning Environment
The COVID pandemic brought a change in how students attend school, but not a change
in high-quality instruction offered at RCSSL. Students have access to their teachers live using

Owl Meeting cameras so that teachers can move around their classrooms and not be tied to a
screen while trying to teach. Additionally, with the learning management system Schoology,
students have access to instructional resources at any time, both in-person and virtually.
However, because our school has now essentially become two schools, physical and virtual,
