Cuba has many important personalities that have been recognized for its talent in several

aspects such as:

Cuban Leaders.

Fidel Castro: He is a politician considered one of the most famous in Cuba for his fight against
the Batista regime. He was the head of government for many years and head of the country's
armed forces.

José Martí: lawyer, poet and writer who dedicated much of his life to achieve the
independence of Cuba. It was also the one who organized a large number of combatants to
begin independence.

Cuban Writers.

Leonardo Padura: He is a Cuban writer, journalist and screenwriter, known for his detective
novels Mario Conde and the novel The Man Who Loved dogs.

Guillermo Cabrera Infante: He was a Cuban writer and screenwriter who won the Cervantes
Prize in 1997.

Cuban Singers.

Celia Cruz: Among the most famous is the singer, with his marked extravagant style when
dressing. Among Cuban salsa singers she is considered the queen of salsa Afro.

Dámaso Pérez Prado: Famous singer, musician and composer who gave rise to the renowned
mambo genre. He is considered the king of the Mambo for his incredible performance and his
characteristic cries when singing.

Cuban Sportpersons.

Javier Sotomayor: He is a Cuban exathlete, considered the best in history in high jump. Holds
world records both outdoors and indoor track, he won an Olympic title, two world
championships, four on the indoor track and three Pan American titles.

Regla Torres Herrera: She is a Cuban volleyball player, who won three consecutive Olympic
gold medals, in the year 2001 was chosen the best player of the XX century awarded by the
FIVB and chosen for the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, located in Holyoke,
Massachusetts, United States.

Cuban Film & Theater Personalities.

Daisy Fuentes: Daisy Fuentes is an American TV presenter and a well-known face of MTV
during the nineties.

Other.

Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez: He is a pilot of war, cosmonaut, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and
Hero of the Soviet Union. He was the first non-American American to fly into space, the first
Cuban cosmonaut and the first Afro-descendant to fly into space.

Víctor Manuel García Valdez: He was a Cuban painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts
in San Alejandro in Havana. Its best known painting is entitled Tropical Gypsy, and painted it in
Paris in 1929.
