ANSWER 02 (a)
P: You study hard
q: You are on merit

P: You do not get a degree from Iqra University

(1) 7q —> p : If you are not on merit then you do not get a degree from Iqra University
and if you do not get a degree from Iqra University then you are not on merit .
(2) q —>7p : If you are on merit then you will get a degree from Iqra University .
(3) p v q v 7p : You study hard or you are on merit or you will get degree from Iqra
University .
(4) (p—>7p ) v (q —>7p ) : If you study hard then you wil get a degree from Iqra
University or if you on merit then you will get a degree from Iqra University .
(5) (p ^ q ) (7q ^ 7p ) : you study hard,either you are on merit or you are not on merit ,the
you will get a degree from Iqra University.

ANSWER 03
(a) There exists a value between 1 and 5 such that p (x) is true , this is thus equivalent to
with P (1) V P(2) V P(3) V P(4) V P(5).
(b) For every value between 1 and 5 we need P(x) is true , this is thus equivalent with P(1) ^
P(2) ^ P(3) ^ P(4) ^ P(5) .
(c) This statement is the negation of the statement in a , this is thus equivalent with – (P(1) V
P(2) V P(3) V P(4) V P(5)).
(d) This statement is the negation of the statement in b , this is thus equivalent with –(p(1) ^
p(2) ^ p(3) ^ p(4) ^ p(5)).
(e) This equation is equivalent with (p(1) ^ p(2) ^ p(4) ^ p(5)) v (-p(1) v –P(2) v –p(3) v –
p(4) v –p(5)), because the first statement means that p (x) is true when x is not equal to 3
and the second statement meant that there has to be a value for x where p(x) is false and
thus –p(x) is true .
