SUBJECT: Report on Trip to “¿Cómo preparar un CV y Portafolio?”

Introduction
The aim of this report is to present information given at the videoconference sponsored by the
Chemistry and Physics Student Association (AEQF) and co-sponsored by the National Biological
Honor Society ßßß, Zeta Kappa Chapter (TriBeta) on September 10th, 2020. The videoconference
as via Google Meet and was titled “¿Cómo preparar un CV y Portafolio”. The videoconference
was offered by Dr. Pier Le Compte. She spoke about how to properly and efficiently create a
portfolio and a curriculum vitae for professional and academic purposes. The videoconference
convened at 12:00 pm and adjourned at 1:30 pm.
How to make an appropriate Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Dr. Le Compte explained how to organize an appropriate CV. She explained that the CV can be
organized in different ways. The structure and format of the document will define its overall
outlook and will determine how it would be read. The CV should look professional and should be
efficient and easy to follow by readers to find the information they need. It should be structured in
a way that it draws attention to the most valuable skills. She explained what type of information
should be provided in this document. Also, she provided tips and information regarding what
information can make it look unprofessional.
How to make an appropriate portfolio
Dr. Le Compte explained how to correctly create a professional portfolio that is appropriate for
work or academia. Dr. Le Compte explained that a professional portfolio tells people who a person
is and documents everything a person has been doing. It should be updated frequently because it
can be hard to remember everything a person has done in a certain amount of time. She mentioned
ways to properly organize the portfolio and which activities can be included. The portfolio can
include professional development conferences, all certifications, extra courses, and extracurricular
activities that a person has done or attended.
Closing
In this videoconference, the importance of having a well-organized and professional curriculum
vitae and portfolio was highlighted. The differences between both document and how to use each
of them in the appropriate professional circumstances was effectively explained.
