turning point in Zephyrhills 26-0 playoff win over Weeki Wachee Friday
night that propelled the Bulldogs into the second round of the Class 5A
Regional playoffs.
The Bulldogs came out flat to start the game with the offense sputtering.

this holiday season – Christmas in Time Square
– which will take place on Dec. 5 from 4-8 p.m.

at 6:30 p.m. and a Christmas film shown at Time

Moore celebrated the release her first book, “The
Pet Soul Book, A Guide for Letting Go and Connecting
with Your Beloved Pet.”
In an event Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus in
Zephyrhills, Moore celebrated the launch of her work
with a book signing where she shared her guidebook
that will help people know “when it’s time,” overcome
guilt and bring comfort around the death of a pet.
Moore’s name may sound familiar as she serves
as a student counselor at Zephyrhills High School
preparing students for adulthood.
“I knew I wanted to make an impact,” Moore said.
“I love animals, especially dogs and I’m a counselor.
One day I was sitting in a chair and it came to me to
write a book about pet loss.
“I had a clear vision what I wanted it to look like
and what the message was I wanted to write in the
book. It flowed pretty easily.”
Moore did not just take her personal experiences
into consideration. She listened to the stories of
several local people for her research to help people
release their grief more gently and learn to get in
touch with their pet’s spirit.
Moore was blessed with overwhelming support
from the community who came out to purchase the
book and have her sign them.
“This is unbelievable,” Moore said. “I knew this
is the place we wanted to do this. This has been a
dream. This the location for my book and I have my
family all around me. It has just been great.”

Moore’s local release.

one dessert truck. The Pasco Sherriff’s
Mounted Posse will be present in the
square throughout the evening. The food
trucks will depart between 7:30 p.m. and
7:45 p.m. The event will conclude when
the film is over, although attendees are
encouraged to continue their evening in
the downtown businesses.
“We’re so excited that we are finally
able to do something,” said Main Street
Coordinator Paxton McCullough. “We

have 15,000 people like they have for
Festival of Lights. That is not possible. We
are prepared for a smaller-scale event.”

The defense stood strong.
With Zephyrhills leading just 7-0 in the
third quarter McKever picked off a pass
and returned it 47 yards to set up a Jaylin
Thomas 26-yard touchdown run. On the
ensuing kickoff, Isaiah Lawrence made a
huge hit jarring the ball loose and it was
recovered by McKever. Three plays later
Zyre Roundtree scored to put the Bulldogs
up 19-0.
“We have the best defense in two
counties now,” McKever said. “We grew
up this year together. It was a boost to get
a shutout in the playoffs. Hopefully, we
can hold the next two teams scoreless and
we can go far.”
The interception provided a much-
needed spark.
“That pick gave us a lot of momentum,”
Bulldog offensive lineman Kamil Mehrab has been a force with his fellow linemen in
setting the tone for the powerful running game.
Thomas said. “He didn’t have a pick all
year and he was telling us he was going
to get one this game. When he got it, we
were all hyped. We went on a roll and we
couldn’t stop after that.”
The story remained the same for
Zephyrhills as the Bulldogs’ defense
registered its fifth shutout of the season.
“We’re able to keep our offense in the
game with our defense,” said Bulldogs
head coach Nick Carroll said of shutting
out the Hornets.
The Hornets played solid defense in
the first half as well holding the high-
powered Bulldogs’ offense to just one
touchdown in the first half when Jaxson
Rivera hit Clayton Cornelius with a 29-
yard touchdown strike. Roundtree added
another score in the fourth quarter.

Lady Bulldogs Spark Season With Attack
Huge Win Against Tough Opponent Inspires Team

Quick hands and an aggressive defense
along with 25 points by Maya Llanes
sparked Zephyrhills to an 80-53 win over
River Ridge Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Royal
Knights have history in recent years and
all of it is in favor of the Knights. In coach
Chris Smith’s three years at the helm at
Zephyrhills, his squad has never beaten
River Ridge. The most recent defeat still
stings as the Knights knocked the Lady
Bulldogs out of the playoffs last season.
“This one is bigger, because it’s against a
team that I haven’t beaten yet and my girls
haven’t beaten yet.” Smith said. “It’s all we
talked about during pre-game. I wrote five
dates on the board, every date they beat
us and I wrote today’s date. I told them
all these others don’t matter. The only date
that matters is today.

For Llanes, who finished with 12 assists,
the Lady Bulldogs had a lot to prove when
they took the court against the Knights.
“Every time we came out against
River Ridge, it was like , “Oh, it’s just
Zephyrhills,” Llanes said. “We came out
and played. We had to. We had to get rid
of that thought that we are the team at the
bottom of the district. Not this year.”
Llanes remembers that loss to the
Knights that ended the 2020 season.
“After they knocked us out of the first
round of districts, we knew we had to
come out here and beat them,” Llanes
said. “We have all played together since
we were little. We needed a confidence
booster. We didn’t want it to be like every
other season.”

led to fast break points that helped the Bulldogs pull away in the second quarter
to take a 41-26 lead at halftime.
“Everything about us is aggressiveness,”
Smith said. “They are strong. They are
physical. They push me around out here
and I play hard.”
Zephyrhills downed Mulberry 86-2 (Not
a typo) Monday night before putting up 80
against River Ridge. Smith is checking to
see if the 86 points against Mulberry is a
school record.
“A lot of them have played together for
a long time and we try to run the same
systems so they are familiar with it,” Smith
said of his squad. “We plug in players and
they gel together. It’s easy to do when
things are going good.”
Joining Llanes in double figures were
Kreuger with 19 points and Cintron with
16 points. The Lady Bulldogs will try to
keep the streak alive Thursday night when
Tuesday’s 80-53 win over River Ridge. they host Hudson. Tipoff is a t 7 p.m.
