PHILIPPINES HISTORY

1500s – 1600s: Spanish period


March 17 1521: The Las Islas Filipinas were claimed by Ferdinand
Magellan,a Portuguese explorer from Spain.
March 31 1521: The first Catholic mass was held in an island in Leyte.
1521:The Las Islas Filipinas was renamed as Philippines by Ferdinand
Magellan as an honor to King Philip II of Spain.
April 27 1521: Battle of Mactan,when Ferdinand Magellan was killed by
Lapulapu also knowned as the first Filipino hero.
February 13 1565: The Las Islas Filipinas was renamed as Philippines by
Ferdinand Magellan as an honor to King Philip II of Spain.
1565: Cebu has been named as the capital of the Philippines
June 3, 1571: Raja Sulayman who lead Manila,was defeated in the battle in
Bangkusay.
1595: Manila was named as the new and the current capital of the
Philippines.
1616: First eruption of Mayon Volcano.
April 14, 1617: The Las Islas Filipinas was renamed as Philippines by

1641: First eruption of Taal Volcano.
October 1646: The Las Islas Filipinas was renamed as Philippines by
Ferdinand Magellan as an honor to King Philip II of Spain.
1700s:
1700: First admission of natives into the Religious Orders.
1751: Sultan Muhammad Alimudin was imprisoned in Manila.
1754: Taal Volcano eruption destroyed some cities in Batangas.
October 1762: The British fleet defeat the Spanish warship allowing the
British rule the country for two years.
1762: British occupation of Manila.
1763: Sultan Muhammad Alimudin restored his throne.
March 1764 : The British surrendered the Philippines to Spain after losing
the battle between them.

1800s:
October 1829: Francis Dagohoy, a Leader in Bohol surrendered to the
Spaniards.
September 1834: Manila was opened to the international trade leading to a
remarkable transformation of its economy.
JOSE RIZAL

June 28, 1848: Teodora Morales Alonso-Realonda y Quintos married

June 19, 1861: Jose Rizal borned as the seventh child and was named “  Jose
Protasio Rizal-Mercado y Alonso-Realonda”.
1870: Jose Rizal started studying under Justiniano Cruz at the age of nine.
1875: Jose Rizal enters Ateneo at just 14 years old.
1876:  Rizal receives a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Ateneo de Manila.
He not only receives this degree, but receives it with the highest honors
possible.
1877: Jose Rizal started studying at University of Santo Thomas where he
studies philosophy.
November 1877:  Rizal writes a poem and receives recognition for his
writing from the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country, also
known as Amigos del Pals.
1882: Rizal travels secretly from Manila to Spain using French ship and
continue his study at Madrid.
1886: Rizal receives a degree in medicine from the Central University of
Madrid at the age of 23.
1887: Rizal finishes his first novel titled “Noli Me Tangere”  while staying in
Berlin.
1888: In February Rizal leaves Spain and sets sail in Japan.
1892: He met a girl named Josephine Bracken who he wanted to marry but
the church refused to give him a license to marry.
1896: He died on December 30 at Bagumbayan.

COLONIZATION PERIOD
Heneral Luna: Luna was the greatest General at the Spanish war but he died
because the Filipinos is angry at him.
Apolinario Mabini: was a Filipino revolutionary leader,educator, lawyer,
and statesman who served first as a legal and constitutional adviser to
the Revolutionary Government.

Emilio Aguinaldo: The First President of the Philippines.
