SECTION 16721

FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM SYSTEM

1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Section 16011, “Electrical General Requirements”, applies to this section, with the additions and
modifications specified herein
1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The work includes supply and installation of complete fire detection and
alarm system.
1.1 PERMITS:
The contractor shall secure and pay for all necessary permits from government authorities having jurisdiction on
the project site prior to execution of installation.
1.2 EXAMINATION OF SITE
Bidders are expected to have examined the existing facilities and condition of work and have coordinated with the
Construction Manager Office in connection with or relative to the project, making sure that their estimate includes
the facilities and difficulties of the proposed contract and other contingencies.
1.3 FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM SYSTEM
1.3.1 The system shall comply with the requirements of the Philippine Electric Code and applicable provisions
of National Fire Protection Association Standards and meet all requirements of the local authorities
having jurisdiction. All equipment and devices shall be listed by the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for
fire alarm use.
1.3.2 The CONTRACTOR shall install a fire alarm wiring and conduit system complete with equipment. All
wiring shall be run in conduit.
1.3.3 Existing FDAS is addressable system Notifier brand (Contractor to verify).
1.3.4 New installations indicated on plans are of hybrid type. Provide system zoning as shown on the
drawings. Include the necessary modules, switches, relays, wiring terminals for the new installations to
complete and complement the existing system.
1.3.5 Provide red break-glass pull stations where shown on the drawings. Manual stations shall be
addressable, double action, pull lever type with glass rod and manual reset.
1.3.6 Automatic Detectors: Automatic detectors shall be low-profile type and equipped with red LED light that
will indicate status. The detector base shall allow interchange of ionization, thermal and photoelectric
detectors with no wiring or base modifications required.
1.3.6.1 Conventional Automatic Detectors

Photoelectric Area Detectors: Provide and install photoelectric smoke detectors where indicated on
the drawings. The detector shall utilize LED light sources for reliability and shall employ the
multiple-cell concept. The detectors shall be both rate compensated and 1.5% fixed sensitivity type
devices. A status LED shall be provided to indicate detector activation. Detectors shall be reset at the
zone FACP.
1.3.6.2 Addressable Automatic Detectors

Photoelectric Area Detectors: Provide and install intelligent addressable photoelectric smoke detectors
where indicated on the drawings. The detector shall be equipped with a fully coated circuit board, bug
and dirt protection.

Thermal Detectors: Provide and install dual thermal element detectors where indicated on the
drawings. The detector shall utilize rate of rise and 135 degrees F fixed temperature sensing elements.

FDAS Specification
The rate of rise contact shall close when the rate of heat rise exceeds 15 degrees F per minute. Return
to normal temperature shall cause the rate of rise contact to automatically restore to its normal open
circuit condition.
The fixed temperature element shall be independent of the rate of rise and shall consist of an external
heat collector and fusible link. When the ambient temperature reaches 135 degrees F the fusible link
shall melt closing an alarm contact and releasing the external heat collector. The external heat collector
shall drop away from the main detector body to provide positive visual indication of operation. Thermal
element must be replaced after operation.

1.3.7 Audible and visual alarm shall be horn and strobe combination type, surface mounted with minimum 100
dBA at meters.
1.3.8 Fire alarm system wiring shall be Type TF insulation.
1.3.9 Boxes for fire alarm manual stations and signaling devices as well as all pull boxes shall be Code gauged
and sized adequately for the number of wires contained plus devices, if any. Special boxes shall be used
where necessary and as required by equipment sizes
1.4 Final Test shall include the followings:
1. Test of all control panel functions.
2. Test all circuit in normal, trouble and alarm conditions.
3. Operation of system under emergency power supply.
4. Visual inspection of all wiring.
