4
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Persons have complained about their pak-choi plant not developing properly
when they are exposed to direct sunlight and as such they are unable to obtain a
handsome profit.

5
AIM

To Determine Whether the pak-choi grows with or without shade.

6
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

Numbers of activities carried out in this investigation includes landing

clearing ,ploughing, harrowing, measuring of beds and drains also applying
organic manure, followed by planting irrigation and stalking plants also weed
removal.

In this project six days was planted with pak-choi plants..

7
LIST OF MATERIALS USED ON THE FARM

 Cutlass
 Fork
 Spade
 Shovel
 Seedlings
 Watercan
 Branches
 Rake
 Organic manure
 Long boots
 Wheel barrow

9
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES

 LAND CLEARING - is the process of removing trees , stumps ,

stone and other obstacles from an area as required to increase
the size of the crop producing land base of an existing farm.

 PRIMARY TILLAGE - is the first soil tillage after the last harvest .
It is normally conducted when the soil is wet enough to plowing
and strong enough to give reasonable levels of traction.

 SECONDARY TILLAGE - to improve the seed bed by increased

soil pulverization , to conserve moisture through destruction of
weeds , and to cut up crop residues.

 MEASURING OF BEDS AND DRAINS - raised beds allow excess

water to drain out the beds (horizontal drainage) into open
collector drains which then discharge off the paddock.

 CONSTRUCTIONS OF BEDS AND DRAINS - raised bed farming

refers to the agricultural technique of building treestanding crop
beds above the existing level of soil . Drainage is the artificial
removal of water , both surface and sub-face.

10
 APPLICATION OF ORGANIC/INORGANIC MANURE - fertilizer
application are made to soils in order to improve soil fertility and
crop yield . Organic fertilizer gave higher residual effect on the
nutrient status of soil than inorganic fertilizer.

 TRANSPLANTING - is the process of moving a fully germinate

seedling or mature plant and replanting it in a permanent
location for the growing season.

 IRRIGATION - is the application of contolled amounts of water to

plant at needed intervals . It also help to grow agricultural crops
maintain landscapes , and revegetate distributed soils in dry
areas.

 SHADING - Is the blocking of sunlight (in particular direct

sunshine) by any object . It may refer to blocking of sunlight by a
roof , branches and or any other object.

 WEED CONTROL - is the botanical component of pest control ,

which attempts to stop weeds , especially noxious weeds , from
competing with desired flora or fauna.

 HARVESTING - is the process of gathering a ripe crop from the

fields . It is also the most labor-intensive activity of growing
season.

11
 CLEANING - is the process of removing unwanted substances ,
such as dirt , infectious agents and other inpurities from the crop
harvested.

 PACKAGING - protects against damage or contamination by

micro-organisms, air, moisture and toxins . It prevents product
spilling or leaking .It is also an essential medium for preserving
food quantity , minimizing food wastage and reducing
preservatives used in food.

 MARKETING - refers to the activities under-taken by a company

to promote the buying or selling of a product or services.
