CONCENTRATED PEPPERMINT WATER

Formula and Roles


Peppermint oil- 20 mL- It gives the flavor and taste.
Ethanol, 90%- 600 mL- It acts as a co- solvent.
Purified Talc- 50 g- Breaks volatile substances into minute particles thereby exposed to solvent.
It also removes the excess of the volatile substance. Acts as a dispersing agent.
Purified Water, q.s.- It is the solvent used in the preparation

Evaluation Questions:

1. Give medicinal value of peppermint water.

- Peppermint water is a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the symptomatic relief of
minor digestive complaints such as dyspepsia, flatulence and stomach cramps, based on
traditional use only. It is also a carminative and flavoring vehicle, mildly sedative to the stomach.

2. How do we store our peppermint water? For how long do we use this preparation?

- Peppermint water is preserve in tight containers. Peppermint water, the current peppermint
water has low content and is not suitable to store for a long time and the current preparation
processes are not environment-friendly and have high storage safety requirements.

Generalization:

- Peppermint Water is a clear, saturated solution of Peppermint Oil in Purified Water, prepared
by one of the processes described under Aromatic Waters. Aromatic Water. Used as an
antispasmodic and carminative in flatulence of the gastrointestinal tract, cramping and bloating,
flatulent colic to relieve nausea and vomiting, and as a gentle, aromatic stimulant. Store in well-
closed,light-resistant container in cool place to prevent the volatilization of peppermint oil.
