To whom it may concern,

I am honored to be considered for a student teaching position at an elementary school in Caldwell

County. Teaching in my own community is my aspiration. I have always been inspired by the teachers in
my life and hope to share that same encouragement with our future generations.

Appalachian State has prepared me for this opportunity through a rigorous elementary education
program. I was exposed to classes dedicated to research-based pedagogy, classroom diversity, and
technology integration. Previous field experience in two other Caldwell County elementary schools has
been invaluable. The chance to create, implement, analyze, and reflect on my own lesson plans has
given me a chance to put theory into practice. I am still so eager to practice more of my teaching skills
and to learn from a full-time elementary classroom experience.

Many experiences have prepared me for working in schools. The one that is the most influential to my
career choice was being a camp counselor for three summers. All the students learned so much over
the week I had with them. It was fun, exciting, structured, and productive time. It was also inclusive to
group formations and relationship building. I had interactions with all types of students, quiet or loud,
behaved or misbehaved, and found them all to have curiosity, and a need to share about what they are
experiencing. These interactions with students and parents over the summers as well as customer
service training at Chick-fil-A have given me strong interpersonal skills.

I am excited for the opportunity to observe and work alongside experienced educators.

Sincerely,

Jessica Barnett (Maiden Name Hopland)
