Past/Present/Future Writing Assignment

For your first 8th grade writing assignment, you are to write an essay about
your life. You will need to include 1-2 paragraphs about your past, 1-2
paragraphs about your present, and 1-2 paragraphs about your future plans. This
is a chance for you to give your teacher some highlighted information about your
life, along with showing off your skills as a writer.

Expectations:
 This should be written as an essay with paragraphs. Include an
introduction into your first paragraph and a conclusion at the end of your
last paragraph. (Do not use “hi” or “the end”)
 When completed, you should have 3-6 paragraphs.
 Ideas to write about from your past can be things like a story from your
younger days, something you find special from elementary school, a family
trip that you enjoyed, etc. There are so many experiences you have had
from your past, so pick one or two that you would like to share in the paper
and thoroughly write about it.
 Ideas to write about from your present can be things like your family,
interests you have, hobbies/activities you participate in, things you want to
tell me about who you are presently, etc. Tell about yourself now.
 Ideas to write about from your future can be things like where you see
yourself 10 years or 20 years or 30 years from now, future possibilities for
schooling or jobs, goals you have for what you want to do with your life, etc.
Elaborate on where you see yourself in the future.
 Type this on the Google Doc in the Schoology assignment.
 Only turn in the final copy on the due date. You do not need to turn in a
rough draft with this assignment. I expect you to write a rough draft,
though, and then make sure you spend some time polishing it by revising
and editing.
 Use MLA formatting. Consult the ELA Handbook if you cannot remember
how to do that from the Schoology assignment you completed.
 Be sure there are no spelling/grammar errors in your assignment. This is
your first writing sample for your English teacher to assess.
 This assignment should take some time to complete. Not only does this
essay help me to get to know YOU, but it also helps me to begin determining
what kind of writer you are. So write to express yourself and who you are!
