POOH with Packer
MANDREL
RULES OF THUMB
Get drawing of packer, know where you are at all times
Shoe I.D. 1/16” over body mandrel O.D.
Run Light, 1 to 3 K wt, 80 to 100 RPM to minimize spinning parts
Spud lightly on slips 1 or two times only if necessary
Slow down pump to burn over packing element
If rings begin to spin use light weight, high rpms, and slow
pumps
Opti Cut recommended on flat bottom crown type shoes.
Run Bumper Jars and 2 Boot Baskets
RULES OF THUMB
Get drawing of packer , know where you are at all times
Shoe OD, just under casing drift
Run light 1 to 3 K, 80 to 100 RPM’s to minimize spinning
parts
Spud lightly on slips , 1 to 2 times if necessary
Burn over top slips only if possible
If rings begin to spin, use light weight, high RPM, and slow
pumps
Opti cut recommended on flat bottom crown type shoes
Run Bumper Jars and two Boot baskets
R = S / (D x 3.26/12)
S=optimum surface speed
D= mill O.D.
R= rotary speed
Example: to mill up a packer in 5 ½” 17# casing with metal
muncher inserts with an optimum surface speed of 250 feet per
minute
250 / ( 4.750 x 3.26 / 12)= 155 RPMs
Milling Inconel = Reduce surface speed by 75%
