MANDREL

„ After shearing shear pins take Front Back Body

overpull to confirm packer is
latched, put in slight right
hand torque and slack off, tool
is now in the released position
for wash over procedures.
„ Can be released if the need
becomes necessary by picking
up and taking slight overpull,
put in and hold let hand
torque, slack off, then put in
slight left hand torque and
pick up.

„ RIH tag packer, take overpull and engage
spear, P/U, hold RH torque to reposition J,
then S/O and mill Packer, POOH with
Packer
„ Emergency Release: Bump down, then
slowly P/U with RH rotation. This will shear

RULES OF THUMB
„ Get drawing of packer, know where you are at all times
„ Shoe I.D. 1/16” over body mandrel O.D.
„ Run Light, 1 to 3 K wt, 80 to 100 RPM to minimize spinning parts
„ Spud lightly on slips 1 or two times only if necessary
„ Slow down pump to burn over packing element
„ If rings begin to spin use light weight, high rpms, and slow
pumps
„ Opti Cut recommended on flat bottom crown type shoes.
„ Run Bumper Jars and 2 Boot Baskets

Milling Speeds
Baker Oil Tools

Surface Speed of Superloy/ Metal Muncher = 225-325 feet per

minute
Optimum Cutter Surface speed to RPM

R = S / (D x 3.26/12)
S=optimum surface speed
D= mill O.D.
R= rotary speed
Example: to mill up a packer in 5 ½” 17# casing with metal
muncher inserts with an optimum surface speed of 250 feet per
minute
250 / ( 4.750 x 3.26 / 12)= 155 RPMs
Milling Inconel = Reduce surface speed by 75%
