| § ”A” : TEST EQUIPMENT

A--1) Environmental chamber (oven) capable of reaching and maintaining a temperature
corresponding to the specified severity level within specified tolerance in all points, with
max. 20% relative humidity. Chamber shall be constructed in such a way that parts are
nowhere subjected to heating by direct radiation of heating elements.
A--2) Analytic scale, accuracy 0.01g.
A--3) Steady state damp heat chamber, capable of ensuring a temperature of 40 ± 2°C and 90
to 95% R.H. in all points. Chamber shall be constructed in such a way that air circulates
at low speed and parts are not directly exposed to steam or condensates.
A--4) Low temperature test chamber: it must be capable of reaching and maintaining a
temperature corresponding to the specified severity level within tolerance of ± 2°C in all
points.
A--5) Device consisting of an hexagonal--section steel parallelepiped, rotating around its axis
thanks to a variable speed electric motor.

NOTE: Equivalent test equipment may be substituted but must be equal or superior in features,
accuracy and repeatability. Any test equipment indicated in the documents listed in § “B” below
shall be added to that indicated above.

GENERAL

ALL MATERIALS BEING TESTED SHALL NOT CONTAIN IRRITATING, ALLERGENIC OR
HOWEVER HARMFUL SUBSTANCES SUCH TO CAUSE INCONVENIENCES OR INJURY TO THE
WORKERS AND USERS.

1.2
Carton tarred felt has been developed for applications inside the vehicle, without contacts with the
exterior. In case there is a direct contact with the exterior and there are no alternate solutions
technically possible, this material can be applied only if protected by overlapping sheets of fusible
sound deadener sheets (IFF P.S. 9.55648).

1.3
All materials shall not give out unpleasant odors.

1.4
Drawing callouts
The panel drawing shall indicate:
-- the number of this Procurement Specification;
-- the septum carton tarred felt cross section, completed with total minimum thickness (in mm),
in the areas where the thickness check of composite panel shall be carried out.
-- name and thickness of the decorative material, if any.

Carry out the test with equipment and modalities specified in Std. 7.M8600.

2.3.9
Rotting resistance
(To be carried out only after checking with suitable chemical analysis the compliance to § 1.1).

2.3.9.1
Cut from component being tested, a 1dm2 specimen and immerse it in distilled water for 10 min., at ambi-
ent temperature.

2.3.9.2
Remove the specimen from water and, without drying it, place in 1 dm3 glass tight container.

2.3.9.3
Place the assembly in oven (ref. § A--1) at 35 ± 2°C for 350 h.

2.3.9.4
After conditioning remove the assembly.

2.3.9.5
Open the glass container and note the presence of mildew or putrid odors.

2.3.10
Bending

Cut one specimen measuring at least 20 x 100 mm from sample.

Place specimen and a cylindrical mandrel whose diameter is five times the thickness of material under
test in low temperature chamber (ref. § A--4) at 0 ± 1°C for 2 hours.

Carry out the test on an approximately square shape specimen having about 10 dm2 area obtained from
a representative cut having, if present, areas with different thickness.

Protect the specimen edges with water proof product (e.g. RTV silicone).

Weigh the specimen by analytic scale (ref. § A--2) with 0.1 g accuracy.

Place specimen in D.H.C (ref. § A--3) at 40 ± 2°C with 95% R.H for 24 h.

Place the specimen vertically in the test chamber to avoid condensation to drop on itself (Std. 7.G2110).

2.3.11.6
Remove the specimen from D.H.C. and leave to cool at ambient temperature then weigh it again: calculate
the percentage of water absorption.

2.3.11.7
Check the measured value is within the specified limit.

2.3.12
Flexibility
Cut from component under test a piece 20 x 100 mm, at least.

2.3.12.1
Place the piece and a ∅ 20 mm cylindrical mandrel in the low temperature chamber (ref. § A ---4) at :
D --102 ˚C for 2 h for material of Annex 1, 2 and 4 ;
D 02 ˚C for 2 h for material of Annex 3 .

2.3.12.2
In 2 s, and always inside the chamber, bend the piece of 180˚ on the mandrel.

2.3.12.3
Carry out a visual check of the piece comparing it with the prescribed limit.

2.3.14.1
From different areas of the material sheet, take 3 specimens having a diameter of 40 mm. The specimens
shall be cut by using a dinking die.

Carry out the test using the specific equipment (ref. § A--5), and submitting each specimen of the material
under test to an increasing centrifugal force until it detaches from the steel flat surface to which it had been
applied (Fig. 8).

2.3.14.3
Weight each specimen on a weighing balance having an accuracy of 0.01 g (ref. § A--2). Apply the speci-
men on one of the 6 sides of the parallelepiped, make it adhere by applying a light manual pressure on
the whole surface.
NOTE: in case specimens are too rigid or too thick, scatter with talc powder the parallelepiped surface
in order to improve the adhesion of the material under test to the surface itself (air bubbles remov-
al).

Measure the magnetic power efficiency by starting to rotate the parallelepiped and gradually increasing
the rotation speed until the specimen detaches because of the centrifugal force.

2.3.14.5
Read the rotation speed on the revolution counter of the equipment at the moment of the detachment.

Calculate the attractive force by using the following formula :

The Supplier shall comply with the general requirements contained in P.S. 9.01102 “QUALITY OF SUP-
PLIES”.

Product Qualification Supplies

Product Supplies
The supplied product shall conform with drawing and this Specification. When establishing the
manufacturingprocesstobeadoptedandseverityofinspections, theSuppliershalltakeintoaccount
theclassesofimportancethatFIAT hasassignedtoeachofthecharacteristicstowhichrequirements
refer (see § 5).

NOTE: Checks may be performed on components which have been subjected to non--destructive test
(indicated with NM in § 5) during product qualification and supply inspection.
Components which have been subjected to destructive tests (M) may not be used for further
tests or inspections unless otherwise specified case by case.
