Oprah Winfrey has an exemplary character. One of the important points for
leaders is trustworthy to lead others whish she has it.
“She is enthusiastic about her work or cause and also about her role as
leader” (Blackler, 2003). It is a fact that people will respond more openly to a
person like Oprah Winfrey that has passion and dedication. She has the ability to
be able to be a source of inspiration, and be a motivator towards the required action
or cause. Result of researches shows that in order to lead and set direction a leader
needs to appear confident as a person and in the leadership role and she is
confident. She has the ability to function in an orderly and purposeful manner in
situations of uncertainty.
Winfrey surrounded herself with the best people based on their skills and
compatibility with organizational values. She inspired them with her vision and
rewarded them for their hard work and loyalty (she once gave her 1,000+
employees and their families an all-expenses trip to Hawaii to thank them for their
service). For any business, your customers are your #1 priority; Winfrey never
forgot this. During the run of The Oprah Winfrey Show, she often had lavish
giveaways where her studio audience would be gifted with free stuff. During the
last year of her show, she famously gave every audience member a free trip to
Australia! More than that, Winfrey was known for listening to her audience and
even including them in her shows. This demonstrated care for her audience and so
they remained engaged with her show and followed her other projects.
She stand up for what is right, even in the face of popular disagreement. She
also accepts blame when at fault. The most amazing thing is she has an inward
desire that motivates her to excel; she also has the willing to act without orders and
to offer well-considered recommendations for the improvement of the command.
She is accountable, and that quality forms the cornerstone of leadership. She makes
decisions, good or bad, and accepts the responsibility and consequences for those
decisions.
Oprah Winfrey as a leader is more assertive and persuasive, has a stronger
need to get things done and is more willing to take risks. Oprah Winfrey was also
found to be more empathetic and flexible, as well as stronger in interpersonal skills
that bring the special ability for her to read situations accurately and take
information in from all sides.
Charismatic leadership is seen of Oprah’s dominance as the first woman to
own her own network broadcast changing the lives of millions of her viewers.
Oprah is self-confident and shares personal stories about her pain and joy.
She is an authentic communicator who makes a strong connection with her
audience. She also has a great sense of moral values. When Oprah makes
mistakes she is willing to announce that she was wrong. This is why so many of
Oprah’s viewers feel a strong connection with her.
Finally, leadership can vary depending on situation and background of the
leader. Experts agree that Oprah is a leader to emulate. She is uniquely able to
inspire her team and execute her vision while maintaining mass appeal. She is a
ssuccessful, talented and she carefully selects her top team to assure competence
and compatibly, and then stands by them. She invests in top talent, seeks out smart
mentors, values her customer and consistently nourishes each relationship and
these are some of the factors that affects the leader and helps her to achieve her
goals. A great leader cannot hope to achieve perfection. Like Oprah, a great leader
hopes to be the one left standing.
