“RIMPAC 2020 kicks off; new safety guidelines released due to COVID 19”

The RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific Islands) exercise has officially commenced last august
18 .It will be a 2 week training and exercise that features different nations and their
navies around the globe.

It was commenced by Vice Adm. Scott D Conn, commander of U.S Third Fleet and with
his prerecorded virtual welcome speech to all of the participants to the exercise,
signaling the start of the RIMPAC.

During the speech, Vice Adm. Conn announces that there will be new safety guidelines
for RIMPAC 2020 due to the terror of the COVID 19 virus that still in today as of August .
These guidelines ensure the safety to all sailors, participants, and the residents of Hawaii
so that they will not be affected by the virus.

"Everything we're doing for RIMPAC has been carefully and deliberately planned to
ensure everyone's safety" as stated by Vice Admin Conn, while deliberately announcing
that the whole RIMPAC would be at sea exercise

As stated during the speech, The RIMPAC will follow different sets of guidelines and
constructs that make everyone safe from the virus, as safety was important throughout
the event. One of the important ones are having a 14 day quarantine and negative
CoVID 19 tests were required to all U.S ships

If needed, these ships will be able to COVID 19 tests at sea similarly to the partner ships
that will join the event as there is no plan to bring any COVID 19 specimen around the
event proper and all island military facilities were on call if there will be an emergency
medical situation arises during the event, while the sailors were not allowed to step foot
at any piers.

This RIMPAC has planned to become the largest ever than 2018, but due to the
pandemic, the numbers were trickled down to more than a hundred participants with
10 countries participating from all around the globe.

This is the first time it happened since it was established in 1976. Due to increasing
heights of the pandemic, they resorted to the safety precautions and constructs to
ensure everyone is safe from the virus. This will help to combat the infection to this event
that happens every two years.
