The Foundation for Critical Thinking launched the Urban Agriculture Initiative in August to
promote social and economic reform in urban farming through the tools of critical thinking. The
initiative includes a two-year apprenticeship program in which Northwest Arkansas youth and
young adults will receive instruction and training in developing urban community gardens.
The Urban Agriculture Initiative aims to reach educators who can incorporate critical thinking
and urban farming into their lesson plans. The cooking class may provide insight and ideas for
teachers to use in their classroom at any age level.
The community cooking class is the first event that the Urban Agriculture Initiative has ever
hosted. The event’s purpose is to generate awareness and interest in the Urban Agriculture
Initiative while having fun. For the cooking class, the Urban Agriculture Initiative partnered with
Red Barn, an urban farming living committee.
All attendants will take home a free potted cooking herb of their choice. The class is free, but
donations are welcome and further outreach to educators. For more information and to register
for the class go to bit.ly/cookingclass or email the Foundation for Critical Thinking at
cct@criticalthinking.org with questions.
