History of Barangay Tanque

According to our ancestors, the word “Tanke” is a water tank wherein the supply of water is
stored for the consumption of the people during World War II. But in reality it is an armory of
the Filipino Guerillas where they stored their different kinds of ammunition. They used “Tanke”
as their secret password when get their firearms especially if the enemies is about to attack. It
is also used as an evacuation place of the Filipino People.
There were many version how our Barangay became Tanque. They said, when Capiz and Aklan
were not yet separated the Aklanons People they called it Fishpond Barangay Tanque. But we
cannot gather a concrete evidence if the story our ancestors are really true.

Today, Barangay Tanque is one of the most developed Barangay of Roxas City. It is run by a
Punong Barangay and its seven (7) Barangay Kagawads. Since it is a large Barangay it was
divided into seven (7) sitios.
