The patented Radius TTS ‘Orienter’ is perhaps the most critical component necessary in CTD
applications.
Horizontal drilling is conventionally achieved through the manipulation from surface, of a
curvature built into a section of the motor. Conventional drilling allows rotating the entire length of
pipe down to the curvature in the motor from the surface. Coiled tubing’s inherent advantage, its
ability to be spooled, and run into the hole as a continuous string limits its ability to be accurately
oriented from surface. The Tomahawk Orienter, is run as part of the BHA in horizontal coiled
tubing drilling applications, and provides a means by which to rotate the only thing that must be
manipulated to drill horizontal well’s; the curvature in the motor.
