Laurence Names Jaime Alonso Head Girls Soccer Coach

(BURBANK, IL) St. Laurence is excited to name Jaime Alonso the school’s head girls soccer
coach. In addition to leading the girls program, Alonso will be a Spanish teacher and an assistant
for the boys soccer program.

Alonso, 23, brings an impressive background to St. Laurence. He is a recent graduate of the
University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology. As a
member of the soccer team at UIC, he was part of Horizon League conference championship
teams in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In addition to his success as a player, he was praised by the
Flames’ coaching staff for his leadership in the locker room and positive work ethic. Alonso now
continues his passion for the game as a coach for Inter FC, in which he guides boys and girls in
becoming successful on and off the soccer field.

“I am honored to take over the girls soccer program at St. Laurence,” said Alonso. “This school
has built a rich soccer tradition in recent years. The culture around soccer at STL is second to
none, and I cannot wait to continue to build the girls program. ”

Along with his work with Inter FC, Alonso has previous experience coaching young women
through the Girls in the Game after school soccer program, where he provided advice and
guidance to girls through education on sports, health and leadership.

“I am extremely excited to bring Coach Alonso on as the head girls varsity soccer coach,” said
St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “Although he is young, his passion for the game is
evident. We are excited to watch him grow alongside our girls soccer program.”

Coach Alonso takes over a girls soccer program that is filled with underclassmen talent. In 2019,
the team won an IHSA Regional Championship in its second season in program history.

Grade school soccer players can meet Coach Alonso at the coed soccer summer camp from July
6-9 at St. Laurence. Soccer camp allows boys and girls to explore the game in a competitive and
fun environment. Coach Alonso will be joined by 2019 Daily Southtown Boys Soccer Coach of
the Year Kyle Boekeloo and some of the southside’s best high school soccer players. The camp
will be held in person, with appropriate social distancing and safety measures taken to ensure the
health of each camper. You can sign up for the camp at https://stlaurence.8to18.com/.
