THEORY OF WRITING ESSAY.

At the moment my research question lies with how the emphasis of literacy , reading ,and the

studies of language affect the progression of countries and how for those countries that have

high development rates the emphasis on these practices was a high one and kids are taken t

school regularly and reading and language is taught very early on at home. This might be a little

off or out of the ordinary for our project but it just really got me thinking when I was looking

into sources about the importance of literacy how underdeveloped countries have a great lag in

their importance of schooling and literacy practices. My personal connection with this is

growing up so close to an under developed country and visiting so often. Going to Mexico really

often as a kid to visit family and to vacation I got to really spend time with kids around the areas

that we visited and I realized now that I never saw them being gifted a book growing up. In

America that is a regular practice to give a child books or learning stuff for Christmas and

birthdays In car rides I was given a book as my source if entertainment but when we hung out

with family in Mexico they were taught many different things. Instead of sitting a child down to

read a book while food was being made the little girls were all in the kitchen with the women

cooking and the boys were outside helping out the men. Things like literacy weren’t very

important to these people they wanted their kids to learn life skills that will help them which

now as an adult I can totally see practical being girls my age in Mexico are preparing to be

someone’s wife while I’m here in college eating out 5 days out of the week. My ideas are all

over the place but I just see the connection with these underdeveloped countries staying under

developed because kids are not taught to aspire to the engineer or the doctors in the kids

books. Children are taught to aspire to make ends meet or to be the best at home wife and
cook well for everyone. I would like for us to really see their point of view and how they suffer

more than we think they do. I would also like for us to take consciousness of how we really are

lucky to live in the country that we live in. My research dove into how immigrant family

sacrifices changed the world of people generation through generation. I have seen this which

my own family and I really see how much a little change can make a difference. This speaker

talks about how her family’s emphasis on literacy and education changed her whole world and

it made me think if every family around the world this opportunity had wouldn’t we live in a

better place. Wouldn’t everything be pretty and shiny, I don’t know why my first source made

me remember and get really into these facts.

In this video she talks about the value of literacy and the value of education and the success

rate of future generations. She talks about the correlations of being poor and the lack of

education. She also talks about how quality education is a matter so social rights for people and

how its not a matter of charity to give students valuable education.

Desai, V. S. (2012). Importance of literacy in India’s economic growth. International Journal of

Economics and Research, 3(2), 112-124.

This paper talks about India’s poverty and how many are forced to drop out in order to survive

and in areas where this is the case for everyone this is the area where poverty is at its highest.

We do not see the correlation with illiteracy and poverty but it is actually a big thing.

I wasn’t to sure what a popular source might’ve been but to me it stood out to be something

that as easily accessible so I chose this because it’s a easily accessible website that talks about

different ways literacy benefits those who are underdeveloped. It talks about how it doesn’t

only improve individual quality of life but it also improves a countries overall success rate

because education equal more jobs and more jobs equal more industrialization overall

development in areas.

These sources are pretty strong in backing up my question of the importance of literacy. All

these sources come from creatable websites and can be easily cited. I think overall it really has

made me think how lucky we are to have been born the part of the world that we are born in

and how even luckier we are to have parents that value us going to college and bettering

ourselves. Overall, I want to see how this project can help me find importation to hlp out. We

live so close to the border I could get a small group of friends and maybe cross over and find a

safe space to educate children and others. We can teach families the value of school and how it

truly can change your lives. The children we could help them maybe learn English or learn to

read and keep going with bigger and more interesting book. All this research really helped me

open my eyes and want to make a difference. I want this to become a large thing and help 3 rd

world countries grow in wealth generation through generation and end all the suffering and

wars there is. This project just opened my as to how we don’t see the true value o literacy but it

makes such a difference its insane.
