Climate change will significantly impact agriculture by increasing water demand, limiting
crop productivity and by reducing water availability in areas where irrigation is most
needed or has comparative advantage
In 2011, According to UK’s Met Office, drought and famine in East Africa was linked to
climate change
Here are some evidences how climate change is adversely affecting the agricultural
lands in Africa
1. Sub-Saharan Africa sees decreases of 19% for maize yields, 68% decrease for bean
yields
2. Increasingly high vulnerability of wheat production in North Africa
3. Negative effect on major cereal crops across Africa, with regional variability.
Consequently, if the agriculture sector is affected, many people would suffer from famine
due to limited supply of food.
