EXPERIMENT NO.14

1.0 Title :

To understand the operation and determine resonance frequency response of single tuned RF
amplifier.

2.0 Prior Concepts :

a) CE Amplifier :
It is the amplifier which provides high voltage and power gains for the same frequency. Hence it is
widely used for most of the applications.

b) Tuning Process :
Tuning is a process of selecting a desired frequency.

c) Tuned Circuit :
This circuit consist of series or parallel combination of RLC components, one of which (either
capacitor or inductor) is variable. This is for adjusting the resonant frequency of the circuit.

d) Resonant Frequency :
At a particular frequency when inductive reactance XL equals to capacitive reactance XC then the
circuit behaves as a purely resistive circuit, this phenomenon called as resonance and
corresponding frequency is called resonant frequency.

3.0 New Concepts :

Proposition 1 : Tuned voltage (RF) amplifier.
This is an amplifier which amplifier radio frequency signal to a suitable level to drive the load.
It is also selects the desired RF signal and reject the unwanted signal.
Concept structure 1:

Proposition 2 : Parts of single tuned voltage (RF) amplifier.

It consist of three parts.
1. Tuned Circuit
2. Biasing Network
3. Transistor
a) Tuned circuit is which by varying capacitance ( C ) or inductance (L) the resonance
frequency signal (fr) of tuned circuit is made equal to the frequency of input (fin) signal.
b) Biasing network R1, R2, and RE provides the dc operating currents and voltage for the
transistor.
c) Transistor act as an amplifier.
Concept structure 2:

Frequency response of signal tuned voltage (Rf) amplifier is a plot of frequency of input signal
verses voltage gain (Av).
Proposition 4 : Bandwidth of single tuned voltage amplifier.
Bandwidth of amplifier is the difference between higher cut off frequency and lowercut off
frequency.
(middle frequency is resonance frequency)
Concept structure 3: Higher cut OFF
frequency (FH)

Bandwidth is Range of frequency

7.0 Procedure :
1. Trace the circuit and identify the component mounted over it.
2. Make the circuit connections, connect the signal generator at the input terminals and
apply the power supply to kit. Connect DMM to output terminals.
3. Select 3 VAC of signal generator with a starting lowest frequency Fs = 400 Hz.
4. 10 Vdc on regulated power supply suitable range on DMM and CRO.
5. At a particular frequency of AC signal, output voltage is maximum.
6. When frequency is increased further, Vo output will decrease.
7. Apply VCC = 10 V dc, Vs = 3 VAC, with frequency fs = 400 Hz.
8. Vary the frequency fs and note down the corresponding readings of signal frequency and
output.
