Directions: Fill in each part of the App Lesson with your own original ideas.

Please look at the

sample provided on the class website. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete along
with a creative title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards.

 There must be one app per step.

 Android apps can be used as long as all included apps are from the same platform.
 Lessons must cohesively link together 3 to 4 apps going from one focus/step of the lesson
to another.
 Lessons may include direct instruction provided the lecture contents are explained.
 Lessons may utilize web browser apps like Chrome or Safari to access website-based
tools. Link to the website in the write-up and the web browser app in the iTunes web link
area.
 The final step in lessons must have students create a learning artifact from a creation-
based app (presentation, video, etc.) or screenshot of progress from a skill-based app
that students would submit to the teacher for assessment.

Title: … The seven continents and five oceans

Relevant SC Standards: … Students will be able to use maps and globes to categorize places
and regions by their human and physical conditions.

Description: This app lesson will develop (grade band or subject area) students’
(lesson material focus) (understanding, knowledge, skills, etc.) …

 3rd grade social studies lesson

 Students will be able to locate and recognize features on a map/globe and have the ability
to pinpoint a major body of water.

Instructional Objective (1): Students will be able to recognize the shapes and features that
each continent and each major ocean holds through a lecture.

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will be able to follow along with a

lesson by myself lecturing the students through an interactive app called, shadow puppet. This
app allows me to incorporate pictures (maps) into the slideshow that will also have narration of
me teaching the students about the locations of these specific continents and oceans. You could
also incorporate videos for students to create and share or for teachers to use.

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will be able to visually see each

continent and ocean with the app, earth viewer. Earth viewer allows teachers to show an
electronic version of a globe. This could be a different perspective for the students to recognize
where each continent and ocean is.

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of

Progress): Students will look at a world map and determine where each continent and ocean is
located. They will be able to check themselves by selecting on the specific plus sign to reveal the
answer. Think link is a great study tool for students trying to memorize these geographic regions.
