Chapter 1

Introduction

This document is proposed as the base template for the Lab reports of High Performance Materials
Lab classes. It should be used to describe the tests and results achieved, as well as discussions from
test results.

1.1 Problem proposal

This is an example section. Since this LATEX template is a different kind of document (report as opposed
to article), the structure is composed of chapters, sections and subsections. All the remaining commands
work similarly. It also refers to a figure, in this case, 1.1.

In this section you should describe the proposed problem - see the lab protocol. It should be as
short as possible.

Materials and methods

This chapter will be used to describe the materials chosen to test, and the methods to prepare and test
them. Also, the equipments should be described.
In this section there is a table. To build a table, use the code below as a starting point. Other ways
can be used to generate this code, especially when having a calc sheet already built. See the following
site for generating LATEX code for tables from existing calc sheets: https://www.tablesgenerator.
com/

Table 2.1: Example table.

If in need of presenting equations, you can use the "equation" environment, like this:

F Ly m
σ= (2.1)
4I
And then you can refer to it like a figure, equation 2.1 represents the normal stress in bending.
Another example of equation:

F 48E I
S= = (2.2)
δ L3

Chapter 3

Results

This chapter will display results of experiments. Results can be in the shape of graphs, tables, figures
and equations, for instance. Please refer to the https://www.tablesgenerator.com/ website for
easier tables generation.

4
Chapter 4

Discussion

A chapter that analyses the results and provides (when possible) an explanation for what was ob-
served. It is the critical part of the report.

5
Chapter 5

Conclusions

A chapter that starts by summarizing the work from the start, and then describes what was done and
the main outcomes. Should be a summary, no more than half a page long.
