(a) Region 1 (𝑦 < 0) contains a dielectric for which dielectric constant 𝜀𝑟 = 3, while region
2 (𝑦 > 0) is characterized by the dielectric constant 𝜀𝑟 = 4.8. Let the electric field
intensity in region 1 is given by ⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝐸1 = −6𝑥̂ + 10𝑦̂ + 14𝑧̂ V/m, find
(i) the electric field intensity in region 2 ( ⃗⃗⃗⃗

The region between concentric conducting shells 𝑟 = 1.5 𝑚 and 𝑟 = 2.5 𝑚 is charge free. If
the voltages at 𝑟 = 1.5 𝑚 and 𝑟 = 2.5 𝑚 are −10 𝑉 and 100 𝑉, respectively, determine:
(i) the potential at 𝑟 = 1.8 𝑚, [3.5 marks]
(ii) the electric filed intensity at r=2.2 𝑚. [1.5 marks]
