09. Increase condensate an flash steam recovery in

the coffee process L1 and L2
1. Project Background
Some of the process on extraction area consumes high pressure steam, and
discharge high pressure condensate. When this condensate reaches the low
pressure on the condensate tank, a percentage of it becomes flash steam, and it is
lost to the atmosphere.
Also, the condensate of the extraction heater in L1 is not been recovered,
generating water wasting and energy wasting additionally.
2. Project Objectives
Avoid the flash steam loss to the atmosphere on the condensate tank.
Avoid the steam leaks on steam traps on water and extraction heaters.
Recover the condensate from the extraction heater in L1.

The target is to save24,586 GJ/year reducing1.69% of the plant energy consumption.

Reduce the carbon footprint in 1379ton/year which represent 1.71% of total

contamination.

Reduce water losses 25,566 m3/year which represents 2.46% of total water
consumption.

3. Project Scope
Redirect the condensate discharge of extraction area, through a high pressure
condensate pipe line, and same line will discharge in condensate tank with a injectors
head so the steam flash can mix efficiently with the condensate.
Also there must be fitted a heat exchanger to condensate the flash steam and send it to
the condensate tank.
It’s includes: Specification, selection, supply and installation.

4. Alternatives considered
Do not save the flash steam and keep the currentwaste.

5. Timing
Quotation: 1 week
Equipment delivery: 6 - 8 weeks
Installation: 4 weeks (it’s depend on plant disposal)
Commissioning and training: 02 days
*the interconnections need a day per equipment (6 equipment) plus 2 days per
tank (2 tanks).
6. Risk analysis
Low Risk: the proposal is to save flash steam on the condensate tank.
