Dear First Semester Student,

As I write this letter almost done with my 4th semester of nursing school, I can tell you
that I still remember receiving the email granting me admission into the program like it was
yesterday. The feelings of joyful tears, relief and shear excitement overcame as I called to tell
the ones I loved. Never did I think anything could ever top that moment, but with graduation
right around the corner and knowing I am about to step into this career I’m so passionate
about, I can say the moment may be topped. The next four semesters may be the greatest
challenge you’ve endeavored on thus far in life, but hold onto that feeling of the night you got
that email, and never let it go. It will keep you going, and in just two short years, that moment
may be beat out with the emotions of it all coming to an end, but really just being the
beginning.

There will be failures on this journey, but there will be so many more successes. Avoid
getting wrapped up in grades, and instead strive to be fulfilled leaving clinical. It may not seem
possible in the midst of studying for the next exam, or under the weight of your next care plan,
but it’s what truly what nursing is. Make time to surround yourself with your favorite people,
and make time for yourself. A clear and relaxed mind studies harder than any crammed and
overworked one!

Now, take a deep breath. Congratulations to you for sitting in that chair you’re in,
because you are here for a reason! You’ve been chosen to make an impact on a lifetime of full
of patients, and you are going to absolutely crush it! Lean on your cohort, lab group, faculty and
lean on yourself. I know you can’t see it yet, but I am here to tell you that there is a light at the
end of the tunnel. You are so deserving of this, and I am so excited for you! Good luck to you on
your journey of becoming the most amazing nurse.

Sincerely,

Bailee Thompson
