Topic: 21st Century Classroom

Voiceover:
As an educator, I have learned about the great
contributors that have assisted in building our educational structure.  
I wonder what the “fathers and mothers” of education would say
if they could see what we call “modern classrooms” now?
Visual (picture of a traditional classroom):
Voiceover:
Think about our classroom experiences. What did you picture? Hard cold desks in a
single file row,
pencil and paper, and teacher-led lessons. A classroom filled with gloom. Most of us
lived that horror story, at least for a little while.

Voiceover:
Then there was a shift in the plan; technology
entered the classroom, desktops, laptops, and Palm Pilots! The 21st-Century classroom
was born. But what is a “21st-Century classroom”?

A 21st-Century classroom is a student-center learning environment that integrates
technology and multimedia with core content and projects. These classrooms use
educational apps and websites to support student learning and advance their skills. 
The shift allowed students to move from exclusive pencil
and paper, to understanding how to use applications that assisted with
displaying learning.

Technology gave teachers versatility within their teachings; acquiring a great asset that
improves student’s ability to grasp concepts and expanded their learning outside of the
classroom.

Sometimes, it is challenging to visualize integrating the digital world within different
grade-levels, but a technology-rich classroom is possible.

For example, elementary students may use simple application tools such as ABC
Mouse, PBSKid, or  Doodle Buddy.

middle school students may use Chatter Pix, Animoto, or Prodigy.

And high school students may use application tools like Google Slides, Flipgrid, or
Smores. There are a variety of technology tools that suit every age and grade level.

What are the benefits of a 21st-Century classroom?

Well, some benefits include incorporating different learning styles, supporting
collaboration, and creating an engaging environment.

A 21st-Century classroom helps students’ overall learning experience and boosts
teachers’ abilities to have an environment of endless possibilities.
