Personal Statement:

When you start working on your first job, there’s no telling where it may lead you. What

started as a passion for programming and debugging led me to completely change from

climbing the technical path, which I had assumed I’d take when I was in college, to the

management path. Following this change is what made me want to take up graduate

studies in management. Hopefully, with the knowledge, aptitude, and capability I’d have

five years down the road, I will be competent and I’ll have the qualities necessary to

manage a team of my own.

Working in a different country and living alongside people with distinct cultures and

beliefs have always been in my plans. At first, working in an IT-related job as a

programmer abroad, I saw myself trying to fit in a multicultural group of people. But then

I thought, why not aim a little bigger? How much better would it be to instead lead this

group made up of diverse specialists? I won’t be able to achieve even a quarter of that

goal without pursuing the knowledge and skills necessary for that role and what better

way to do that than going back to a university. In the world of IT and management,

there’s always so much to learn.

Over the course of my working experience, I knew that I can combine working abroad

and taking up a managerial role as well. I still have a long way to go but I’ve known

myself to be resilient. I had to teach myself a lot of technologies used in programming

and slowly learn to build and integrate applications. At work, I propose alternative

solutions and help release production-grade systems from the design phase to the

development and testing phases. I can personally say that I am an ambitious yet

practical and clear-headed individual who spends time thinking out of the box. I hope to

take these skills and continue enhancing them during my time at the university.

Given the chance to be admitted to this program, I’d like my research to focus on

something I personally take an interest in. I firmly believe that Filipinos have the

intellectual capacity to be professionally known in the world of IT. Exploring the

management and tech growth in the Philippines as well as its growth globally will be my

primary concern, and also look for more ways on how we can achieve this. I think we

need more presence in the international scene so businesses would take notice and

invest, build, and create data centers in our country. Aside from having a global

presence, this would also create more jobs helping the Philippines in the long run.

Hopefully, I have already illustrated and shown my drive, ambition, and enthusiasm in

taking up this degree program. I am fully committed to pursuing my graduate studies

under the care of your prestigious university.
