Seeking Candidates: Lake Monticello members can serve the community in many ways, but perhaps the most rewarding and
the most challenging is service as a member of the Board of Directors. There will be three vacancies on the Board in June: Scott
Meiss, Mike Harrison and Ray Gott are finishing up their terms now. To give members a choice of who they want representing them in
those positions over the next three years, at least four candidates will be needed. The petition process for candidates is underway, so if
you feel the call to serve your community, please call Communications Manager Peggy Alexander at 589-8263, ext. 111, to arrange for
pick up of a petition packet or for information about the petition process and the election in general. The deadline to return the
completed petition packet to LMOA is 5PM on Mon., March 28.

Members with Ideas they would like presented for member vote at the annual meeting must go through the LMOA member
proposal petition process, which is now underway. Proposals must meet Bylaw requirements for what is appropriate for member vote.
For more information about member proposals or to pick up a petition packet, call Communications Manager Peggy Alexander at 589-
8263, ext. 111. The deadline to file the completed packet is 5PM on Mon., March 28.

“Basics of Fishing for Bass at Lake Monticello,” a free fishing seminar, will be held on Feb. 21, at
7PM in the Terrace Room. This popular class will cover the basics of fishing for bass at Lake Monticello. Veteran
angler and Lake resident Paul St. Clair will talk about the fish species that inhabit our lakes and ponds, their feeding
habits, baits to use, winning fishing techniques and tackle requirements. For more information about the seminar,
call 589-8158 or 540-333-2164. There also will be an update on progress of the Community Fishing Pier.

Honor Flight is a program sponsored by a network of national organizations that makes it possible for World War II veterans (and
WWII volunteers) to visit the WWII memorial in Washington, DC. The next trip is scheduled for April 30. These trips honor the “Greatest
Generation” with an entirely free day, including travel. The only requirement is that the veteran have access to transportation to and
from the departure/return site in Richmond. Travel guardians also are needed to travel with one or two veterans on the trip. They may
be friends, family members or others, but not spouses. Guardians are expected to pay their own way with a donation of at least $75
each to the Honor Flight organization. For more information, go to the Honor Flight website at www.honorflightva.org or contact Tom
Harvey (tcharvey66@embarqmail.com, 434-975-3781) or Pam Batchellor (pbatchellor@centurylink.net, 434-589-3789.)
Application forms are available at http://www.honorflighthtva.org/sponsors/4/22654/file_20396.pdf.

Spring Cleanup Is Coming in May, so it’s time to begin going through your closets, attics, garages and under your beds for
items you want to sell or discard.
x Spring Community Yard Sales will be held on Sat., May 7 and 14.
x Dumpsters for disposal of large items that will not fit into your trash cart will be available for residents’ personal use May 14 -- 30
at Tufton Lake upper parking area. Restrictions apply.
x There are alternatives to tossing useable items into the trash. Several area charitable organizations will be happy to take those
items for others who are not so fortunate. Some organizations even pick up for you. Watch for more information to follow.

Disposal of Leaves: The Environmental Control Committee has alerted residents that it will be citing homes with drainage
culverts and ditches that are clogged with leaves. Here’s how to get rid of all those leaves:
Please remember that, for the health and well being of our watershed, leaves should not be raked, blown or dumped into ditches,
streams, ponds and lakes. LMOA recommends that leaves be used on the lot where they fell, either whole, shredded or composted, to
protect and nourish plantings, but there are alternatives: The leaf disposal site is open daily inside the fenced area at Tufton Lake for
residents’ use only. Do not dump tree branches or other yard debris, Christmas trees or household trash at this site. (Please empty
bags and take them for reuse.) SDI will pick up not more than five bags of leaves per household each week. If there is space in the
trash cart, please place bags inside. If not, place bags about two feet from the cart. The cart must be present so the driver can hoist the
bags into the truck.
