COMPREHENSION INTERVENTION PLAN 2

READING INTERVENTION LESSON PLAN #4 (Comprehension)

STUDENT: Student A
DATE: November 18,2020

GOAL: The goal is for Student A to recognize the words that are unknown to him and use
his iPad to look those words up so he can understand the passage better.

RATIONALE: The rationale for this intervention is for Student A to have a tool when he
reads a passage. This intervention will teach him to scan through the passage and pick out
words that are unknown to him and lookup these words to help him understand the passage
better.

PENNSYLVANIA STATE CORE STANDARD(S): STEPS OF EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION:


 CC.1.1.4.E Read with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension: • Read on-
level text with purpose and understanding. • Read on-level text orally with
accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings. • Use
context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding,
rereading as necessary.

 CC.1.4.4.F Demonstrate a grade-appropriate command of the conventions of


standard English grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.

STEPS OF EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION:


1. Tell Student A to scan through the passage and highlight any of the words that he
doesn’t know.
2. Have him to get his iPad out and go to Google.
3. Tell him to write those unknown words in the chart.
4. Then tell him that he is going to look up the definition of those words and write the
definition in the graph beside the word.
5. After he has looked up all the unknown words, have him read the passage and
answer the comprehension questions.

ASSESSMENT:
I will assess the student based off the comprehension questions. I will check to see if he
was able to comprehend this passage better than the ones we have done before to see if
the intervention was successful.

REFLECTION: This intervention took longer than I wanted it to, but all in all it was an
effective intervention because it helped him to understand the passage better.
