IO Self-Assessment Process

1. Review the rubric and assessment questions


Do this before listening, – this will give you a sense of what you are looking for when you listen.
2. Listen to the your partner deliver their IO.
take notes about how they went on the various aspects of the rubric. Make sure you keep track of the authorial choices they discussed.
3. Assess their performance on the rubric criterion
Be thoughtful and highlight how you believe they achieved.

IO reflection questions
Criterion A: Knowledge, understanding, and interpretation
How did they introduce the oral? Did it include a specific explanation of a global issue? Did it include a summary of the extract and its connection to the greater text
with a clear connection to the global issue? Did the thesis provide a concise and engaging interpretive path through the extract and the global issue? How well did they
explain the evidence from the extract? Did the discussion of the evidence develop a clear understanding and interpretation of the extract and the text through the
global issue? Did the conclusion extend the interpretation, reconnecting the text as a whole and to a thoughtful expansion of the global issue?

Woo Chang thoroughly explained the evidence he chose and made connections with the global issue he chose. He also provided good explanation of the global issue and
a clear understanding throughout the io.

Criterion B: Analysis and evaluation


- While you listen, make a list of the features discussed. Was there a wide array of features discussed? Was the effect and significance of the features clearly and
purposely developed - toward thesis and topic development (global issue)? Did they evaluate the strengths and limitations of the authorial choices in the
presentation of the global issue?
