Week 5
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the

Development and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming
their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

This module will help you learn important science ideas. You will understand these
ideas through various activities.

Below are some reminders in using this module:

1. Use the module with care. Do Not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of
the module.
2. Don’t forget to answer What am I good at?before moving on to the other
activities included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your
answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are
not alone.

We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning
and gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
What’s my target?

This module will help you understand the effects of different

environmental conditions in the life cycle of organisms (Eg. Flood,
drought, environmental calamities, ultraviolet rays).
At the end of this module, you will learn how to:
1. identify the different environmental conditions that
affect the life cycle of organisms (Eg. Flood, drought,
environmental calamities, ultraviolet rays)
2. describe the effects of different environmental conditions
in the life cycle of organisms
3. create a 3-Dimensional model of the life cycle of a
frog/cockroach

What am I good at?

Directions:Read and understand each question.Write the letter

of the correct answer on the space provided.
1. What kind of environmental condition happened in the
picture?

A. drought
B. earthquake
C. fire
D. flood
1
2. What is the effect of drought to living organisms?
A. It can cause asthma.
B. It can cause electric disturbance.
C. It can cause damage to buildings.
D. It can cause dryness or death of plants and
animals.

3. Which environmental condition can cause disruption

of communication and internet services due to strong
winds?
A. drought
B. flood
C. landslide
D. typhoon

4. Which of the following is NOT an environmental effect of

floods?
A. scattering of the eggs/youngs of animals
B. clogging of drainage
C. cracking of land
D. erosion of soil

5. How does ultraviolet rays affect human life? It can cause

__________.
A. sunburn, skin rash or skin cancer
B. damage of properties
C. injury or death
D. loss of lives

Lesson Effects of Environmental

5 Conditions in the Life cycle
of Organisms
Different environmental conditions like flood, drought,
ultraviolet rays, environmental calamities such as typhoon,
landslide, fire, earthquake and others have great effect in the

2
life of organisms. You will know how they affect life as your go
through this module.

What’s to look back?

1. What kind of weather is shown in the picture?

_____________________________________________.
2. What is the effect of typhoon to your life as a
student?
_____________________________________________.

What will I do?

Activity

Study the pictures then answer the questions.

3
1. What are the different conditions of the environment in the
pictures?
______________________________________________________
2. What is the effect of flood, landslide, volcanic eruption,
drought and fire to people, plants and animals ?
____________________________________________________

What’s the meaning?

There are different environmental conditions that affect
the life cycle of organisms. Some of them are; flood, drought,
ultraviolet rays and environmental calamities like fire,
volcanic eruption, landslide, earthquake and others. These
environmental conditions can cause:
1. lack of food
2. different kinds of diseases
3. damage of crops and livestocks
4. loss of human, plant and animal lives
5. destruction of properties like buildings, bridges and
roads
6. interruption of water, electrical and communication
services
7. trauma .

4
What’s more to do?

Directions: Match the effect of the environmental condition to

its cause. Write the letter of the correct answer on the space
provided.
A. B.
___1. bodies of water dry up A. fire
___2. Can cause soil erosion B. flood
___3. can cause dirty water supply C. drought
___4. can cause respiratory diseases due D. earthquake
to volcanic ashfall
___5. can damaged buildings, roads E. volcanic eruption
and bridges

What did I get?

Drought is a period of dryness especially when prolonged.

It can cause; food and water shortage, drying of rivers and
lakes and higher incident of heatstroke and even loss of
lives.
Earthquake is a shaking and trembling of the earth.
Collapsed of buildings and bridges and destruction of
roads may occur.
Fire is the act of instant burning manifested by light, flame
and heat. Burning can damage plant and animal lives.
Soil erosion is also possible.
Flood is the overflowing of a large amount of water beyond
its normal limits. It can cause waterborne diseases due to

5
dirty water supply. Flood can also traumatize victims and
their families for long period of time.
Landslide is the rapid downward movement of a mass of
rock, earth, or artificial fill on a slope. Plants can be washed
away down the slopes. Devastation of wildlife’s habitat and
trouble of finding food may happen.
Typhoon is a heavy fall of rain, snow or hail accompanied by
strong winds. Many large trees may be uprooted.Residential
and commercial buildings maybe severely damaged.
Electrical power and communication services are disrupted.
Volcanic eruption happen when a lava and gas are
discharged from a volcanic vent. It can cause destruction of
plants, livestocks and other mammals due to lava flow,
ashfall and sand particles.
Ultraviolet rays can damage the eyes. It can also cause skin
rash, sunburn and even skin cancer .

What can I show?

A. Most of the regions experienced drought causing water

shortage for household, business and farming . How
can you help conserve/recycle water especially during
this condition?

B. Create a 3-Dimentional model of the life cycle of a frog

and a cockroach. You may use the links
https://youtu.be/JOGw1UX9--c and
https://youtu.be/D61WC0zNWyY to guide you.

6
How’s my target now?

A. Encircle the letter of the best answer.

1. What is drought?
A. a long period of rain
B. a long period of no rain
C. lava and gas are discharged from a volcanic vent
D. an overflowing of a large amount of water beyond its
normal limits.

2. How does ultraviolet rays affect human life? It can cause

__________.
A. sunburn, skin rash or skin cancer
B. damage of properties
C. injury or death
D. loss of lives

3. What is the result of forest fire to newly hatched birds?

They will _____________.
a. easily escape
B. suffer illness
C. die due to smoke
D. die due to hunger

4. What is the effect of typhoon to living organisms?

A. It can cause heatstroke.
B. It can cause electric shortage.
C. It can cause damage of properties.
D. It can cause domestic and wildfire.

4. What do you call the rapid downward movement of

of rock, soil or artificial fill on a slope?

7
A. fire
B. flood
C. drought
D. landslide

5. Which of the statement describe the effect of volcanic

eruption to living organisms?
A. skin rash and sunburn
B. displacement of plants and animals
C. destruction of bulidings, bridges and roads
D. high risk of respiratory illness due to ashfall

What else can I do?

Directions:

A. Read the situation and write down what is asked.

Volcanic eruption can cause respiratory diseases and

skin irritations due to spewed ashes and sand particles.
What are you going to do to protect yourself from those
problems?

B. Use the links, https://youtu.be/RCxvbosa4fU and

https://youtu.be/O5a6yHSI0L0 to enrich your knowledge
about the lesson.
