Exercise 22

Observe your community. Cite instances when you have witnessed the following social
processes.
1.Acculturation
- I am currently experiencing this kind of social process. I am a Filipino but I love eating
samgyupsal and other Korean cuisines. I also love watching K-pops and K-dramas. However, I
would say that the Filipino cuisines are still the best compared to the foods of other country. I
will not replace our dishes and I really enjoyed our way of eating which is “pagkakamay” It
makes the food tastier and enjoyable. Also, I am still an avid fan of Filipino dramas despite the
fact that I like watching K-dramas.
2.Assimilation
- This kind of social process happened to us Filipinos. Because of the colonialization of
Spaniards, Americans, and Japanese, we completely adapt some of their cultures and languages.
Specially for the Spaniards, wherein we have a lot of words that came from them and they also
influenced our religion.
3.Cooperation
- I observed this kind of social process in our section. I know that we have a lot of differences
from each other but we always follow our leaders and do our best to contribute to the work of
our section. Also, I experienced the cooperation in our group in research wherein all the
members work together despite the busy schedule that we have because of the activities in
Canvas.
4.Differentiation
- I witnessed this kind of social process during this pandemic. The professionals have designated
roles that helps our community. Some of the examples is the medical front-liners that prioritizes
the health of the people. The police that discipline and maintain the social distancing among the
individuals. Also, the government that keeps the regulation and provide support for the citizens
in our country. Each of them have different roles in our community but because of that, we
obtain a better living.
5.Amalgamation
- This kind of social process happened to my parents. Before, my mother and father have
different families. They don’t know each other and not related at all. However, because they fell
in love and get married, both of their families union and became one. Our family became big
because it is combination of the family from my mother and father.
6.Stratification
- My family belongs to the social category of lower middle class. It is because my father work as
an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) so he can provide our regarding our personal and
educational necessities. Also, we eat thrice a day and have a few investments so I can say that we
are really blessed right now. However, I hope that in the future, I can also categorize myself in
higher rank of stratification so that, I can also provide for the needs of my future family.
7.Conflict
- I witnessed this kind of social process in my mother side’s family. After the death of my
grandfather, his children, including my mother, had a conflict regarding their properties. They
wanted to have their part from the land of my lolo and in my opinion, they became quite selfish
and greedy. I hope that I will not experience that kind of thing because I only have one sibling
and I don’t want to have conflict with him because of money or properties.
8.Competition
- I experienced this kind of social process almost every year, especially in school. It is because of
the competitions and contests that we joined as a section. When I was in Grade 10, our section
participated in cheer dance competition. We practiced a lot and give our all in our performance.
Even though we have a lot of competitors, we still enjoy ourselves and did our very best.
Luckily, we won as the first place and I really cherished that memory since then.
