distance education?

What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.
 You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.
 You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a
common theme or issue. 
 You don't need to critique your sources
 You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)
 You need to provide background information such as history and
definitions

Literature Review:
Distance education is a method of studying in which lectures are over the internet,
without the student's needing to attend a school or college. In other words, “Distance
education, known acronym to call this type of education is the way of learning which is
established by the use of technologies that allow interaction between the student and
the teacher, although they are in physical environments and different timelines.”
(Oliveira et al., 2018)

Berg (2016) defines early history of distance learning started with correspondence
schools in the 19th century. Geographical isolation from schools and dispersed religious
congregations spurred the development of religious correspondence education in the
United States in the 19th century. For example, the Chautauqua Lake Sunday School
Assembly in western New York state began in 1874 as a program for training Sunday
school teachers and church workers.

There are many advantages of distance learning but here I will mention some
advantages of distance learning from several resources. According to Chaney (2001)
distance learning is a rapidly expanding environment that allows users the flexibility of
operating. outside of the constraints of time and place. Online courses have been found
to be conducive to students who favor self-regulated learning (You & Kang, 2014). In a
study conducted by Kirtman, a student responded to online coursework by stating, “It is
more self-guided so I can spend more time on the concepts that I need help with and
less on concepts that I can pick up quickly” (Kirtman, 2009, p. 110).
