Dear Mr.

Nick

Greetings. We have seen that, when furnace F3002 run initially with LPG and later run
with Refinery Off gas (Hydrogen Rich gas) convection tube temperature cross the TMT.
To meet the process heat demand (i.e. Keeping Stripper Colum C3001 Bottom
temperature 163 C) DCS operator increases the TCV opening of F3002. As a result
heat released from the extra combustible fuel makes the convection tube skin
temperature 450 C and stack temperature 341C. Whereas MOC of Heater coil is ASTM
A 335 P11 and designed condition is 27.6 bar @ 232C.

It seemed to me that

A. Long flame height which was directly impinging the convection tube was one of
the causes of high skin temperature. Distance between burner and conviction
tube is 3372mm.
B. We found there is no turbulence, swirl or squish near burner and flue gas. Fuel
and air did not get in to furnace on pre mixed condition. Fuel goes through burner
and air comes through air register. Furnace is natural draft type.
C. We want (1.) reduced flame length, 2. More residence time of flue gas at
radiation zone to avoid extra heating of conviction tube 3. Uniform dispersion of
heat flux near radiation zone. 4. Relation between excess airs vs. heat release in
the furnace.

For above reasons, we were thinking placing a SS perforated cone 400mm above the
existing burner cone.

If you think this is not an exact way of solution then please help us by providing other
ingenious ideas from your experience.

I have attached some files for your reference.
