An Analysis on “Across the Universe”

The movie “Across the Universe” incorporates the Beatles’ songs to express how the
characters feel in a particular moment. In other words, the movie can be categorized as a
musical. The musical’s characteristics are evident with the presence of dancing, singing, and
exchanging musical lines in a talking manner.
The main character, Jude is an artist himself. His artworks add colors to this movie. Another
form of art which is visual art is present throughout the movie. Unfortunately, his journey as an
artist is not the spotlight here. However, his skill as an artist is at a quite remarkable level. He
uses unusual methods, such as drawing with a wooden stick and using strawberries for his
artwork. As an artist, he tends to be more emotional than rational.
The war in the movie adds fuel to the fire. Some characters in the movie are affected by the
war and at some point they get separated. However, love brings them back together.
