ACTIVITY DESIGN

TITLE: City Legal Office Staff Paralegal Training

RATIONALE:

The City Legal Office is mandated to provide legal assistance and

support to the City Mayor, officials or employees of the City Government
of Malaybalay, Barangay Officials, private corporations as well as to any
other government agencies and to the local constituents living within the
City. The City Legal Officer is the head of the office, one of its duties and
functions is to investigate or cause to be investigated any local official or
employee for administrative neglect or misconduct in office, and
recommend appropriate action to the governor, mayor or sanggunian, as
the case may be. In relation thereto, the City Legal Officer shall need the
assistance of paralegal in order to lessen the tasks and responsibilities as
mandated under RA 7160 or otherwise known as the “Local Government
Code of the Philippines”.

One of the most important roles of a paralegal is to assist their

attorney in preparing for trials, hearings, and closings. A large part of this
consists of conducting legal research and gathering relevant information
to the case. This includes researching the facts of the case as well as
identifying the appropriate laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles
relevant to the case. The paralegal gathers and analyzes information,
then prepares a written report that the attorney uses to determine how
the case should be handled. Thus, this training is needed by the City
Legal staff in order to determine the basic responsibility of a paralegal
that performs substantive and procedural legal work as authorized by law.

OBJECTIVES: The training is designed to provide the City Legal staff with
basic and practical knowledge as well as to understand and determine the
role of paralegal pertaining to the process of preparing the case and apply
the basic the rules and regulations as prescribed under R.A 7160 and
other existing laws.
TARGET OUTPUTS:
1. Clearly define the role of paralegal;
2. To process common legal transactions with trial courts and
government agencies; and
3. Become more aware, better informed and skilled in handling cases
with appropriate recommendation and be better paralegal of the
City Legal Office.
