STEM LESSON: PARTS OF A PLANT

STANDARDS
From kindergarten to second grade, the standards for science practices
and core science content emphasize that students are making
observ ations and having explanations about phenomena they can
directly explore and inv estigate

OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to dev elop and use a model plant to

• Understand or represent the parts of a plant

• Understand what those parts do


Ex. Roots soak up the water that the plant needs to survive and giv es
the plant stability, like an anchor

• Gather enough information to confidently discuss their knowledge out


loud in a safe env ironment
WHAT ARE PLANTS?
A plant is a living thing that grows in the earth. It has a
stem, leaves, and roots.

They have different seeds for each plant and every


plant has the same basic anatomy, just looks different
Some known examples include:
Trees
Flowers
Grass
