A text feature is an important feature of literary and informational text

that facilitates understanding for the reader.


It’s purppose?
Text features help you locate important information in a text. Knowing
the purpose of the text feature helps you decide at which text feature
to look when you want to understand your text better. Organized by
purpose, the chart identifies text features and how they help the
reader.

Title: The name of a book, magazine, or chapter located on the front


cover or at the beginning of a chapter.

Functions:
· Titles tell the reader the topic of the text.
· Titles show the main idea of the text.
· Titles help the reader by letting them know what they are about
to read.
· Titles focus the reader on a topic so they can make connections
between what they already know and the text.

Heading It divides the text into sections


The title, subtitle, or topic that stands at the top or the beginning, as of
a paragraph, letter, or chapter.
I can brief read the phrase that tells me what information I will find in
the information below the heading or hyperlinked to the heading.

Illustration
Picture; a visual representation (of an object or scene or person of
abstraction) produced on a surface.
I can visualize and understand better the subject being written about.

Photograph
(with or without caption) Picture taken by a camera; captions explain
what is shown in photos.
Helps the reader visualize real events, steps, or objects described in the
text.

Special prints: refers to the bold, underline, or italics required in some


texts.
