SYNOPSIS

SOLAR PASSIVE HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

 INTRODUCTION
Massive energy demand for heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting of the buildings is leading to depletion of precious environmental
resources. These resources can be conserved by designing and developing future buildings utilizing renewable energy sources. Solar energy is
one such resource.
There are two approaches for the application of solar energy to buildings, namely active systems and passive systems. In an active system, solar
collecting panels, the storage unit and the energy distribution system are installed with one or more working fluids. Energy is distributed by the
circulation of working fluids using electrically-operated pumps and fans.
In a passive system, all the functions of collection, storage and distribution are carried out by the designing and building materials themselves.
The term 'passive' refers to the solar-related architectural concept which describes the methods to utilize solar heat that is available to buildings
by natural means.
Generally, no electrical, mechanical or power electronic controls are used. Solar Passive applications, when included in initial building design,
add little or nothing to the cost of the building, yet has the effect of realizing a reduction in operational cost and reduced equipment demand. It is
reliable, mechanically simple, and is a viable asset to a building.

In Solar Passive building architecture, windows, walls, and floors are oriented and made to collect, store, and distribute solar energy in the form
of heat in the winter and reject solar heat in the summer. This is called Solar. Passive design or climatic design because, unlike active solar
heating systems, it doesn't involve the use of mechanical and electrical devices.
 Why Is This Important
 How we live in and organize our cities is going to be critical to a successful future.
 The other buildings have a more significant impact on nature, somehow which results in globalization.
 This passive solar building will have very much less impact on nature, as it follows all the nature rules and principles.
 Bio-climate is a biggest source of ideas and biggest source of inspirations in solar passive
 Nothing in this world can grant better than nature as the nature itself is a biggest source of inspiration
 For a better future of human beings.
 As it uses the regular architectural elements to increase the energetic performance and get a natural comfort, so the need of it is going to
be very high in the future.
 The power produced in the country is mostly from coal (53%) and it is predicted that country's coal reserves won't last beyond 2040-50.
More than 72% population living in villages and half of the villages remain without electricity. So the solar passive helps in saving the
renewable resources as well as reduce the load and let the coal to be use in some other different purposes.
 Introduction to solar passive in buildings will reduce the power consumption by 25-30 percent as it reduces down the power consumption
in lighting, air conditioning etc.

 AIM
Aim is to find out the by research and study different types of solar passive architectural and constructional Techniques for designing and
conclude the results.

 OBJECTIVES
 To learn about energy efficient building design, i.e. to minimize energy use and negative environment effect of building.
 To maximize use of renewable and natural resources in building environment.
 To learn about passive heating and passive cooling.
 Building construction with optimum use of solar energy.
 Thermal comfort for the inhabitants by studying micro & macro climate.
 To reduce maintenance cost.
 Learn about the various standards of solar passive in accordance with ECBC

 SCOPE
 Solar passive is a revolt in the field of architecture for having the healthier future.
 Taking care of the environment and listening to what it has to say will eventually result in the environment taking care of you and
providing a comfortable and energy efficient living environment.
 It is a step towards a healthier well-being.

 LIMITATIONS
 The study is being done under reference of pandemics, hence no case study could be conducted.
 This dissertation is limited to the passive strategies.
 Type of houses is discussed and residential building is also discussed.
 Single type of house and residential building will be discussed.
 The dissertation is limited up to composite climate so as case study is done accordingly
 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
 Selection of topic
